We can’t resist a good statistic! Every year, streaming platforms are getting better at collecting and sharing data about their content, and Spotify leads the way. Its globally popular Spotify Wrapped has become something we all look forward to, revealing the most-streamed songs both for individual users and on a global scale. The year 2024 was a standout for the music industry, with diverse genres and rising artists taking the spotlight, as reflected in Spotify’s rankings.
About a month ago, the platform released its Spotify Wrapped 2024, showing the most-streamed songs and artists of the year. At that time, the number one song was ‘Espresso’ by Sabrina Carpenter. This mega-hit, released on April 12, dominated playlists all year and racked up an impressive 1.68 billion streams, securing the top spot. But in a surprising twist, another track rose to the top during the final days of 2024, just before the year ended.
That song was ‘Birds of a Feather’ by Billie Eilish, the talented singer, producer, and songwriter. In just 25 days after the Wrapped release, the track, which initially held third place, surged past 1.781 billion streams, overtaking Carpenter’s Espresso, which slipped to second place. By New Year’s Eve, it was clear the shift was inevitable. Co-produced by Finneas, ‘Birds of a Feather’ officially became the most-streamed song of 2024, marking a dramatic end to an unforgettable year in music.
This year’s competition for the top spots was tougher than ever. Third place is currently held by the emotional ballad Beautiful Things by Benson Boone, with ‘Lose Control’ by Teddy Swims following in fourth. ‘Lose Control’ made a significant climb, overtaking the urban hit ‘Gata Only’ by FloyyMenor and Cris Mj, which now holds fifth place. Other standout tracks, such as ‘Too Sweet’ by Hozier, ‘Cruel Summer’ by Taylor Swift, and ‘Die With A Smile’ by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, round out the list of 2024’s most-streamed songs.
This year’s list highlights an impressive mix of genres, from emotional ballads and urban hits to pop and alternative tracks, proving that 2024 was a year of diversity in music.
