Laura Coca—On a night filled with emotion and music, Shakira once again captured Mexico’s heart as she kicked off the second leg of her concerts at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City.

But beyond the spectacle of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, what truly marked the evening of August 26 was an intimate, moving moment between the artist and her fans: a heartfelt tribute to her father, William Mebarak Chadid, live on stage.

During the show, Shakira performed the classic ranchera ‘Sombras Nada Más’ alongside Mariachi Gama Mil. Before singing, she shared a few words that touched the more than 50,000 fans in attendance: “This song was one of my dad’s favorites, and I know today he would be so proud to hear me sing it. It’s by the great Mexican legend, Javier Solís.”

A Dedication That Moved Thousands

William Mebarak, Shakira’s 93-year-old father, is currently facing serious health challenges. Since 2022, he has gone through multiple complications. Including a fall that led to brain surgery, pneumonia, and a procedure for hydrocephalus. Even while touring the world with her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran shows, Shakira has remained in constant touch with her family.

But beyond the tribute, the night was full of surprises—like a special appearance by Danna, who joined Shakira on stage to perform ‘Soltera’. The singer also dedicated ‘Antología’ to the Mexican audience, a country she considers essential in the beginning of her international career.

With this run of concerts—set to continue—Shakira reaffirms both her artistic power and her ability to move and connect on the deepest level. At the same time, she shows her professionalism on stage. Even when addressing something as personal and delicate as her father’s health, she remains strong and grounded before thousands of fans.
