Death is always unexpected, but in some cases, it’s even more so. This was tragically the case for actress Michelle Trachtenberg, who passed away last Wednesday at the age of 39 in New York City. Her mother found her lifeless, and according to CNN, the city’s medical examiner has stated her cause of death as ‘undetermined.’
Trachtenberg was well-known for her roles in TV shows like Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as the movie Ice Princess and 17 Again. Now, reports say her family has chosen not to have an autopsy done. “The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time,” her representatives said in a statement on Wednesday.
However, a source from the New York Police Department told the same outlet that she had recently dealt with a medical issue, suggesting her death might have been from natural causes. They also mentioned she had a liver transplant in the months leading up to her passing.
Michelle Trachtenberg started acting when she was just 5 years old, appearing in an episode of the series Law & Order in 1991. From there, she went on to be in other successful shows like House and Six Feet Under.
At 15, she landed one of her most famous and beloved roles as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She played this character in the popular series about teenage vampire hunters. She also starred in the 2005 Disney movie Ice Princess.
However, her most memorable role, which really made an impact, was playing the devious Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl. It’s one of the standout characters in the hit series that delves into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.
