Chipotle Closing

Is Chipotle Mexican Grill Really Closing Its Doors?

A rumor has been circulating, claiming that the fast-food chain is going bankrupt

Lately, a rumor has been circulating claiming that the popular fast-food chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is closing many of its restaurants due to bankruptcy. As one of the most loved chains among customers, the news quickly caused concern. But how true is this? And where did it come from?

The rumor started after the Spanish media outlet Unión Rayo published an article about the closure of Farmesa Fresh Eatery, a test project by Chipotle that operated for a short time in 2023 in Santa Monica, California. The confusion began because the article included Chipotle’s logo, leading some readers to mistakenly think the entire chain was shutting down.

According to the Hindustan Times, Chipotle has denied these claims, confirming that the information is false and that there are no plans to close any restaurants. In fact, the company is growing: it plans to open between 315 and 345 new locations this year, many of them with “Chipotlane,” its drive-thru pickup service.

Chipotle also shared in its latest financial report that its revenue grew by 14.6%, reaching $11.3 billion in 2024. On top of that, the company has no debt and over $2 billion in cash, as reported by Hartford.

So, there’s no real reason to worry—Chipotle is not going bankrupt. On the contrary, the company is expanding and continuing to strengthen its presence in the market.

Internet Frenzy

As mentioned earlier, because of the chain’s popularity, social media was quickly flooded with questions, concerns and memes about the rumored bankruptcy.
