Rosalía just turned 33 on Thursday, September 25, proving once again she’s a Libra through and through. To mark the occasion, the singer shared a heartfelt open letter via Substack, where she reflects on growing up, childhood memories, and the passing of time. She even started by talking about the strange kind of pressure that comes with birthdays:
“The day you’re born is supposed to be all about celebrating that you’re still here on this earth. Suddenly everyone remembers you, and for a moment you feel either special or slightly overlooked,” she started.
“It’s the day people raise a glass in your name or sing that dodecaphonic tune better known as ‘Happy Birthday’ (composed, fun fact, by two sisters, Mildred and Patty Smith Hill). From then on, the word ‘happy’ gets stapled onto birthdays forever—because it’s never just a birthday, it’s a happy birthday.”

From there, she goes deeper into her relationship with age, admitting she’s always had a complicated connection with numbers. And, let’s points out something universal: women face heavier social pressure around age than men do.
Rosalía, always playful with words, summed it up perfectly: “Maybe it’s because I’ve never really respected numbers, and all my love has always gone to letters. But it’s never too late to change that.”
Of course, fans were quick to pick up on possible hints about her next record. Toward the end of the letter, after reflecting on her grandmothers (one of whom she’s named after), Rosalía turns to her own name—thanking her mother for choosing something so artistic:
“I still remember that as a kid, I didn’t like my name. María, Helena, Paula, Sandra—I would’ve preferred any common name, anything but Rosalía. Nowadays it’s different. I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world, and I’m grateful because my family really thought about it, almost as if they were prophesying more than 30 years ago by giving me my artistic name.”

For months now, rumors have been swirling that her upcoming album might be titled Rosalía—simply her own name (though another option being floated is LUX). But that’s not the only possible clue in the letter. She also makes a reference to religion, something that could play a major role in her fourth studio album.
“The number 3, a divine number. 33, the Holy Trinity twice. Christ died at 33. The human spine has 33 vertebrae at birth, the Russian alphabet has 33 letters, the 33rd element on the periodic table is arsenic, and in numerology, 33 is considered sacred because it’s the combination of two other master numbers: 11 and 22.”
Rosalia via Substack en su cumpleaños:
«Este año me tocan 33.

Could November 22 (22/11) be the date Rosalía announces something about her new musical era? It’s still too early to tell—and with Rosalía, anything is possible. What’s clear is that her letter is filled with visual references, metaphors, and literary flourishes that leave fans reading between the lines.
