Sophie Nyweide, the former child actress known for her roles in films such as Mammothand Noah, tragically passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 24.
Sophie’s body was discovered on a riverbank near a makeshift shelter in Bennington, Vermont, around 4 a.m. The Bennington Police Department has launched an investigation into her death, considering a range of possible causes, including foul play.
An autopsy and toxicology report are pending to determine the exact cause of death. Nyweide was found with a man at the time of her death; he is cooperating with authorities and is not considered a suspect or person of interest.

In an online obituary, Nyweide’s family revealed that she had suffered trauma as a young child, which made her more susceptible to being taken advantage of. They noted that she often self-medicated to cope with her pain and shame, which possibly led to her death. Despite support from loved ones and professionals, she reportedly rejected treatment.
Nyweide began her acting career at the age of six, debuting in the 2006 film Bella. She went on to appear in several notable films, including Margotat the Wedding and An Invisible Sign. Her television work included an episode of Law & Order and a 2015 appearance on What Would You Do?, which marked her final screen appearance.
As investigations continue, the entertainment industry and fans alike mourn the loss of a talented actress whose life ended too soon.
