AI in Cinema: The Brutalist and Its Controversial Use of Technology

The use of AI in cinema isn’t a new topic, and a recent example brings this discussion to the forefront. The film The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet, used AI in two significant ways:

  1. Dialogue correction in Hungarian: To improve the pronunciation of actors Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones, an AI tool called Respeecher was used to adjust their accents without changing their original performances.

  2. AI-generated images: Some of the architectural scenes in the film were created using AI. However, the director clarified that these AI images were only used in the background, while the main buildings were hand-drawn by artists.

Despite these advances, the use of AI in film has sparked controversy: Will AI become a helpful tool in the industry, or will it end up replacing human actors and creatives?

For now, Prime Video is still testing this technology, but it could change how dubbing and content localization are done in the future.
