The 2025 MTV VMAs are getting closer! A few weeks ago, we finally got the list of nominees who will be competing for the public’s votes and a chance to take home one of the iconic awards. Lady Gaga leads the pack with 12 nominations, followed closely by Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar (10 each), Rosé and Sabrina Carpenter (8), Ariana Grande and The Weeknd (7) and Billie Eilish (6).
Now, the organization has confirmed the first round of performers, and some of them are returning after appearing in last year’s 2024 edition. For the 2025 show, we’ll get major performances from Sabrina Carpenter, J Balvin, Alex Warren, Ricky Martin, Busta Rhymes and Sombr.
With her new studio album on the way, Carpenter returns to the VMAs stage to debut her new musical era, Man’s Best Friend. She’s already given us a taste with the single ‘Manchild,’ which is currently blowing up the charts around the world. And knowing her, she probably has a few surprises up her sleeve.

The show will also feature several standout performances, including Colombian superstar J Balvin, who will perform ‘Zun Zun’ alongside Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavárez, as well as debut his live collaboration ‘Noventa’ with DJ Snake. Balvin — who’s nominated for Best Latin Artist — could make history and become the most-awarded Latin artist in VMA history if he wins his sixth Moon Person.
The competition, however, is going to be tough — both in the general categories and the Latin ones. (Bad Bunny has four nominations, for example.) And there’s also a legend in the mix: Ricky Martin, who will become the first-ever recipient of the Latin Icon Award. The Puerto Rican singer is another name included in this first round of confirmed performers.
And your 2025 #VMA Latin Icon Award recipient is… @RICKY_MARTIN!!! ❤️

Other confirmed acts include Alex Warren, Sombr, and the legendary Busta Rhymes, who will be honored with the very first Rock the Bells Visionary Award. LL Cool J will host the 2025 MTV VMAs, and more performers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The ceremony takes place on September 7 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
