Sabrina Carpenter has been using her music to challenge and poke fun at social norms—especially around gender roles—and she’s keeping that energy alive with her upcoming album, Man’s Best Friend. Both the title and the cover art offer a bold take on the dynamics between women and men.
The album title plays on the familiar phrase “man’s best friend,” usually used to describe dogs. By reclaiming it, Carpenter seems to be calling out how women are often expected to be loyal, obedient, and accommodating in relationships—similar to the role of a pet.
But since revealing the album cover, she’s sparked plenty of debate online. The original Man’s Best Friend cover, where Carpenter appears on all fours while a man holds her by the hair, quickly divided opinions. Some saw it as a sharp, sarcastic commentary—very in line with her usual tone—while others criticized it as offensive or anti-feminist.

After the backlash, Carpenter shared an alternate version of the cover. In it, she channels a classic Marilyn Monroe look in black and white, posing next to a man in a suit. She even referred to this one as the “God-approved” version.

On Tuesday, July 8, Sabrina Carpenter unveiled a third and exclusive album cover through her Instagram profile. This new artwork is part of a limited-edition vinyl release, which is now available for pre-order on her official website.
The updated cover features Sabrina posing in lingerie inside a stylish, flower-filled room—suggesting the arrangements might be gifts from admirers. She’s holding a card marked with the initials “MBF,” referencing the album title. The vinyl itself comes in a soft, dusty pink shade that fits perfectly with the cover’s subtly provocative and romantic vibe.

Man’s Best Friend is set to be released this August, almost exactly a year after Short n’ Sweet, the album that brought hits like ‘Espresso’ and ‘Taste’ to the top of international charts. Anticipation for the new project has been building since June, when Sabrina dropped ‘Manchild’, a track that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100—her second song to top the chart, following the success of ‘Please Please Please’.
