Despite the announcement of the 2024 Latin Grammys yesterday, another story has been stirring up social media after Shakira appeared to have an awkward moment during an event at Liv in Miami last weekend.
The Colombian artist was at the club with other fellow performers like Anitta, Danna Paola, and Lele Pons, when she got up on a platform to dance what seems to be a new single she’s about to release (rumored to be called ‘Soltera’ in celebration of being single). Shakira started dancing to the chorus when she suddenly seemed alarmed, as someone appeared to be filming her from below, where the lower part of her dress was visible.
At this point, the singer from Barranquilla seemed to make a gesture to cover herself and asked if anything could be seen, visibly uncomfortable. She continued dancing briefly before stepping down. Many media outlets suggested it was due to a fan attempting to record her without her consent. Although the news has gone viral worldwide, the artist has not commented on the incident.
However, it seems that her publicity agency, linked to the artist, has spoken out, issuing a statement to the Spanish news agency EFE via Sofía Bukele, Director of Hispanic and Latam Media Relations, stating that the information is not accurate. «On Saturday, September 14, global superstar Shakira lit up the night (…) moving her hips while performing some of her hits (…). Although rumors have spread about a fan filming under her skirt, the truth is that the person filming was a member of her own team, capturing content from her performance at the renowned nightclub.»
Additionally, Bukele clarified that what some headlines have described as an «awkward moment» wasn’t actually the case. Shakira was simply asking fans «to put their phones away so they could enjoy the moment with her and be present for an unforgettable night.»
However, it should be noted that the mentioned media outlet does not specify which agency Bukele represents or her specific relationship with the Colombian artist. Nonetheless, Shakira continues to remain silent on the matter.
