The Sueños Festival in Chicago is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year for any Latin music fan living in the United States. Since its inauguration in 2022, it has demonstrated itself to be one of the most ambitious celebrations due to its epic lineups.

This year, big names in the industry like Peso Pluma and Manuel Turizo were expected to perform at Grant Park in Chicago for the 2024 edition. However, the second day of the festival, Sunday, May 26, was partially canceled due to harsh weather conditions.

Several scheduled acts on Sunday were delayed because of heavy rain. Finally, while Colombian star Maluma had already taken the stage around 8 p.m., festival organizers initiated the evacuation protocol. “Weather evacuation, please calmly head to the nearest exit. Unfortunately, the event is over due to bad weather. Gates will not reopen,” they announced on social media.

On Saturday, May 25, programmed events were carried out as planned, but on Sunday five artists—Bad Gyal, Gabito Ballesteros, Alexis y Fido, and Manuel Turizo—were initially removed from the lineup after a rain delay, but four of them were later added back after the festival restarted at 4 p.m. However, Turizo wasn’t reinstated. Maluma, Mora, and Jowell y Randy carried out their performances, but Peso Pluma, one of the headliners of the Sueños Festival, couldn’t perform, which caused the discontent of many festival-goers.

In fact, at the afterparty, the Doble P himself apologized for the incidents:

“I’m really sad about what happened at the Sueños, but for you to know how much I love the people from Chicago, I’m going to be here really soon. We’ll see each other soon in October at the United Center, viejo. We’re about to sell everything there,” Peso Pluma announced during the event, referring to his upcoming Exodo tour in Chicago.

After the difficult day, the festival organization made a statement on social media confirming the event cancellation and stating that more information about refunds would be available in the following hours. “Due to severe weather conditions, in coordination with the National Weather Service and City of Chicago public safety officials, we made the difficult decision to evacuate Grant Park this evening and have been forced to cancel the remainder of Day 2 of the festival,” the statement read.
