Sinéad O’Connor’s Cause of Death Finally Disclosed

On July 26, 2023, the news of Sinéad O’Connor’s passing came to light. The artist was found dead at her London home, where she had moved earlier that month, at the age of 56. This Tuesday, almost six months later, on January 9, the Southwark Coroner’s Court in London publicly disclosed the cause of death of the Irish artist: natural causes. 

“Mrs. O’Connor died of natural causes,” and therefore, “we have ceased to be involved in her death,” the coroner explained, as reported by The New York Times. 

In the Process of Creating an Eleventh Album 

After several years of musical silence, Sinéad O’Connor admitted on her Twitter profile that she was working on a new album. In fact, she even confessed that it was nearly completed, with just a couple of songs needing some finishing touches. The Irish artist released ten albums over her more than 35 years as a singer and songwriter. The first of them, Lion and the Cobra, was released in 1987, recorded while she was pregnant with her first child and self-produced.

I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss is Sinéad’s tenth and final album. Initially, it was supposed to be released under the title ‘The Vishnu Room,’ but it was eventually changed to the name we now know in support of the Ban Bossy campaign. This album received a favorable reception from international critics and was even nominated for the Irish Meteor Choice Music Prize in the Best Album category.  

Tribute Concert 

On March 20, 2024, at the Carnegie Hall in New York, several artists and friends of Sinéad O’Connor and Shane MacGowan, an Irish poet and singer who passed away this past October, will pay tribute to both musicians. In the concert, which they’ve named ‘Sinéad & Shane,’ some artists like Cat Power, David Gray, Dropkick Murphys, or Glen Hansard will perform.

The event will also commemorate the lives and other professional achievements of the two Irish artists, who recorded the song «Haunted» together in 1995. All the proceeds from the sale of tickets for this charity concert will go to Pen America, a non-profit organization that promotes freedom of expression in the United States.
