Iconic Irish Singer Sinéad O’Connor Dies at 56

Her version of Prince’s song ‘Nothing Compares to You’ reached no.1 in worldwide charts

Sinéad O’Connor became iconic on her simple, yet extraordinary music video ‘Nothing Compares to You. She gained the hearts of millions with a video that featured almost only a close-up frame of her face, showing her classical shaven head and tears rolling down her cheeks. Not to forget her sweet but powerful emotional voice.

     It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time» O’Connor’s family said in an statement.

Musical Journey

Sinéad was born on December 8, 1966, in Dublin, Ireland. Her musical journey began in the late 1980s when she released her debut album, The Lion and the Cobra in 1987. The album demonstrated her raw and emotive vocals, as well as her talent for songwriting. It received critical acclaim and introduced her unique style to the world. 

In 1990, Sinéad O’Connor achieved worldwide fame with her rendition of the song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, originally written by Prince. The music video became an iconic and unforgettable moment in music history.

‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ topped the charts in numerous countries and earned her four Grammy nominations, winning the award for Best Alternative Music Performance.
