Tragically, British singer Liam Payne, 31, was found dead this Wednesday in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The One Direction member reportedly fell from the third floor of a hotel in the city, according to Argentine media.
News outlets like TMZ and Infobae confirmed the story through Buenos Aires police sources. They reported that the incident happened on Wednesday, October 16, at the Hotel Casa Sur. Emergency services were called after reports of ‘an aggressive individual, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.’ When the ambulance service (S.A.M.E.) arrived, they confirmed Payne’s death.
Liam James Payne was born on August 29, 1993, in Wolverhampton, UK. From a young age, he was passionate about both music and sports. He once shared in interviews that he initially dreamed of becoming an Olympic athlete, but his musical talent led him down a different path.
Liam rose to fame after appearing on the UK’s The X Factor in 2010, where he met the other members of what would become one of the world’s most famous boy bands: One Direction. Alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, the group toured the world and achieved massive success until their hiatus in 2015.
Liam first auditioned for The X Factor in 2008 but didn’t make it to the final rounds. He returned in 2010 and got through. During the auditions, judge Nicole Scherzinger suggested he form a group with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson.
With One Direction, Liam reached global fame. The band released several hit albums, like Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, Four, and Made in the A.M. Liam co-wrote many of their songs and was known for his voice and stage presence.
Liam has also teamed up with other artists and, in 2019, released his own album, LP1. His solo music covers a mix of genres, including pop, pop rock, and dance pop.

Last year, Liam canceled his Latin American tour, which was supposed to kick off on September 1 in Peru, then move on to Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and wrap up on September 12 in Mexico City.
He didn’t give many details about why the tour was canceled but mentioned it was due to health issues. He specifically talked about a serious kidney infection that required him to be hospitalized. It was later revealed that he had been admitted to the hospital because of intense kidney pain.
