The list of nominees for the 2024 Latin Grammys has officially been revealed. This year marks the 25th edition of the awards, returning to their roots in Miami to celebrate a year full of music in Spanish and Portuguese. Among the top nominees, Karol G and Bad Bunny stand out as one of the top nominees with 8 nods each, while Bad Bunny follows with seven. Other stars like Jorge Drexler, Shakira, Residente, and Camilo also appear in the main categories.

However, some notable absences have been highlighted. Here are a few of them.

DANNA and Childstar

Continuing with artists who have surprised us this year by taking a 180-degree turn in their careers, we must talk about Danna. The Mexican star, like Tini, decided to create a more experimental album, blending it with pop and opting for much deeper lyrics. We’re talking about Childstar.

The singer has impressed with songs like ‘BLACKOUT’ and ‘ATARI.’ She didn’t forget to include fun and danceable tracks like ‘1TRAGO.’ Childstar is a well-produced album that isn’t afraid to surprise the listener. It’s a shame not to see this album in any category.

Tini and un mechón de pelo

Tini’s un mechón de pelo has become one of the iconic moments in the Latin pop music industry. The Argentine star crumbled and rose from her own ashes in an LP packed with authentic lyrics and bold production.

It’s an album that experiments with sound, synthesizers, and Tini’s voice. Special mention goes to the beautiful ballad ‘pa,’ dedicated to her first love: her father.

Bad Gyal and La Joia

Bad Gyal, the Spanish star revolutionizing the Latin music scene with La Joia and her collaborations with artists like Ozuna, Anitta, Young Miko, and Tokischa, has also stood out for her absence from the list of nominees for the 2024 Grammys. This has surprised many, given the cultural impact her music has had, especially during the past year.

Rels B and A New Star

When we think of an urban artist representing Spain, Rels B immediately comes to mind. The artist has become a major figure in music, and his album A New Star has been a hit with tracks like ‘Un Desperdicio’ and ‘La Vida Sin Ti.’

The singer has not only shown a keen ability to capture life in the Spanish Balearic Islands in his lyrics but also to deliver top-tier production in each of his songs. His absence from the urban categories has surprised his fans.

Aitana and Alpha

Aitana shocked the music world by taking a major step in her career with the release of Alpha. The album blends traditional pop with electronic music. Released on September 22, 2023, Alpha has been a hot topic ever since, thanks to singles like ‘Los Ángeles’ and ‘AQYNE,’ as well as her successful tour in Spain, which gave us one of the most iconic choreographies in Spanish music in recent years—of course, we’re talking about ‘Miamor.’ The absence of Alpha in the pop categories at the 2024 Latin Grammys has surprised Aitana’s fans.
