Karol G, a Shooting Star in ‘Griselda’: The Literal 5 Minutes She Appears

The bichota has a role in the new Netflix series starring Sofía Vergara, but how much screen time does she have?

The new series starring Sofía Vergara, ‘Griselda,‘ had as its main attraction the debut of one of the most prominent artists of recent years: Karol G. Although more of a debut that would showcase her acting skills, it turned out to be little more than a cameo. A supporting role with a few lines.

Upon its announcement, many recalled the finale of Sky Rojo with Rauw Alejandro, where the artist had the opportunity to shine by showcasing his action skills. The Saturn interpreter ended up playing a significant role in the series’ conclusion, sharing the plot with the main characters; something that seemed possible for Karol as well. However, it was far from that.

Our Carolina probably spends more time at one of her concerts than she did on the set of the series—although who knows, as every shoot is a world of its own—especially considering that her character, while having some lines, is not essential to the development of the story. In fact, she barely interacts with the lead, Sofía Vergara.

As known before its premiere, Karol G plays Carla, one of the prostitutes whom the drug trafficker takes to Miami to help distribute drugs. However, this amounts to being on screen for less than five minutes in total. And yes, we’ve counted!

Approximately, stopwatch in hand—ignoring the changes in shots where she is not present—the interpreter of «Mientras Me Curo del Cora» is on screen for 5 minutes and 30 seconds. It’s not until the second episode that she makes her appearance, a pattern repeated in the third and fourth.

Here are all of Karol G’s interventions and the exact minutes:

Episode 2

In the second episode, we see Karol G with her fellow prostitutes landing in Miami. It’s the first time the Colombian music star appears on screen, specifically at the 02:32 mark (in case you want to see it). She reappears at 04:06. It’s at this moment that we hear her speak for the first time. And what does she say upon arriving at the hostel where she stays? One of her favorite expressions: «¡Ay, qué chimba!» However, it’s followed by a complaint about the lack of water at the place she’s staying: «¡Sin agua! Yo pensaba que en Estados Unidos iba a estar más elegante.»

Karol G intervenes again at the 22:17 mark. «Como cuánto tiempo vamos a estar, podría estar haciendo mucha plata en Medellín,» Karol asks. She appears again at 28:19 while Griselda, played by Sofía Vergara, explains to the girls what they have to do. Her last appearance in this episode is leaving a party, at the car door at 43:30.

Episode 3

In episode 3 of Griselda, Karol G appears alongside her fellow characters at various moments. However, this time, she has no lines. Her character, Carla, appears at 33:49 and at the 41:00 mark.

Episode 4

The last time we see Karol G on the small screen as Carla is in the fourth episode of the series. In a phone conversation between the character Isa (Paulina Davila) and Griselda, Karol G is seen listening from the couch. Upon learning that the drug lord is on the other end of the line, she shouts, «¡Qué pasó, esa madrina, ¡qué chimba!» This occurs at the 3:12 mark.

As devoted fans, we would have liked to see a bit more of Karol G in the Griselda series, but it’s true that it’s her acting debut. We have to acknowledge that the singer holds her own on screen, and for a first foray into the world of acting, it’s quite impressive. Nevertheless, we’re already looking forward to seeing her in other acting projects.
