Danna just dropped her latest album: Childstar. It’s a collection of songs that really show her true self, with lots of ups and downs. In an interview with LOS40 Spain, she opened up about hitting rock bottom before finding her way. That’s when she decided to pour all her experiences into this album, making it the most personal, mature, and experimental one of her career so far. And it’s really something.
“It was during a profound depression I experienced post-pandemic where I faced my darkest demons. Yet, it was in that darkness that I found myself and understood what I wanted to create. Every song reflects experiences from my own life. I’m reconciling with myself and my art,” she explained.
Among all these songs, Danna tells a love story («PLATONIK»). An experience she lived during her years in Spain, but it remained a one-sided affection on her part. “Yes, it’s inspired by real events. It was a very beautiful experience, also a journey of self-discovery as a woman in this aspect. I was living in Spain. At that time, I was tired of guys and everything that had happened to me. I had a crush on a girl whom I never told. In fact, she was my platonic love,” she begins.
Danna admits that during that period, her focus was solely on her: “I lived with this feeling of being obsessed with her all the time. I was fascinated by everything about her. It was very intense because I kept it to myself, and I don’t know why I didn’t have the courage to say it at that time. I think I had many internal issues and other quite toxic relationships around me. But I would have loved to.”
What’s exciting is that Danna is now ready to share this experience with that person: “I’m glad to capture this experience in the song now. Perhaps one day I’ll tell her about it. I believe the right moment will come once the album is released. Ultimately, love is universal to me. Falling for her was a significant discovery for me as a person.”
No doubt, Danna’s new album marks a significant personal journey. It’s her most intimate work to date. Who do you think the song might be about? Do you think we’ll know about her ‘platonic’ love soon?
