Since it was announced that the famous Broadway musical Wicked would be turned into a movie, fans have been buzzing with excitement. Now that the release is just around the corner, everyone is keeping an eye on what’s happening ahead of the premiere. The movie, inspired by the world of Oz, will hit theaters on November 22. Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest hits of the season.
Of course, such a major film has had a world tour of premieres. After showing the movie in Australia and the U.S., the stars headed to Mexico. Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, and the rest of the cast traveled to Mexico City for the premiere.
While they were there, Ariana Grande met another big name in Latin pop: Danna. The Mexican singer voices Elphaba, the character played by Cynthia Erivo, in the Latin American version. Danna shared with the press what the conversation was like with the ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ singer.

“She told me, ‘You sound beautiful.’ That really made me happy. It’s been a dream come true to meet her,” Danna shared. Along with her co-star Ceci de La Cueva, who voices Glinda in the Latin version. Danna also revealed that they always warmed up their voices with Ariana Grande’s songs. Danna and Ceci were the ones who played Glinda and Elphaba in the Wicked musical in Mexico City back in 2013.
“We used to practice and warm up with Ariana’s music. Getting to meet her and hearing that she liked what we did made me so happy,” Danna added. “For 21 years, Cynthia, Ariana, Ceci, and I have been bringing these two iconic characters to life, and we’ve all become part of this big family,” she said.
At the premiere in Mexico City, Ariana Grande had a very emotional moment. The singer’s fans started shouting, “Ariana, sister, you’re already Mexican!” Touched by the excitement, Ariana couldn’t help but get emotional, her face lighting up in surprise as she showed her appreciation. When Ariana spoke to the crowd to thank them, she sent all her love in Spanish: “I love you all so much.”
