Ángela Aguilar has had a whirlwind 2024, filled with both career highlights and personal challenges. While she’s long been in the public eye due to her family’s legacy, she has built a successful career in her own right. However, her relationship with Christian Nodal put her under intense media scrutiny, sparking endless discussions online.
The controversy started when the couple went public shortly after Nodal’s breakup with Cazzu, with whom he shares a daughter, Inti. Since then, Ángela and Nodal have been constant headlines, making her one of the most Googled singers of 2024. Unfortunately, the spotlight came with a wave of online hate, even leading to her being booed during her performance at the Kids’ Choice Awards. Considering she’s only 21, dealing with such such intense negativity can’t be easy. So, how has she managed to stay grounded through it all?
Ángela shared that therapy has been key to managing the criticism she faces daily on social media. “Therapy has helped me realize that I don’t owe anyone an explanation. The people who truly matter know who I am,” she explained. One of the most helpful lessons she’s learned from her therapist is: “Trying to control something outside of yourself is psychopathic. Don’t be a psychopath.”
The singer shared that she’s learned to prioritize her well-being and focus on what truly matters. Letting go of external expectations helped her find emotional balance and stop seeking others’ approval. In the past, she often felt pressured to be perfect and earn validation. She also admitted that her impulsive nature sometimes made dealing with criticism harder, but she’s learned to manage it better over time.
“I’m done trying to please people. I’ve stopped forcing myself to be a role model for others. What matters most is being true to myself,” she explained. “Letting go of the fear of ‘what will people say’ has taught me a lot. I used to think being a good example meant being perfect, but it really means being honest with yourself and your feelings.” […] “I don’t have to hide who I am to be liked anymore. If people like me, great—and if they don’t, that’s okay too.”
Even though this year has been full of ups and downs, the singer considers it a crucial part of her self-discovery journey. In an interview with Infobae, she reflected on how she’s learned to appreciate herself more than she thought possible. “This year, I learned to love myself more than I ever thought I could. There’s still a long way to go, but now I accept and love myself just the way I am,” she concluded.
