Just a few hours left to experience one of the world’s most significant sports and music events: the 2024 Super Bowl. The 58th edition will take place on Sunday, February 11th, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada (Las Vegas, USA). Once again, the two best teams in the competition will face off in the final NFL game: the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

However, if there’s another annual winner in this must-see event for fans of great entertainment, it’s the Halftime star. The renowned Halftime show of Super Bowl LVIII will be headlined by Usher, one of the R&B superstars celebrating 30 years in the industry in 2024.

The announcement was made on September 24, 2023, through a video that blended past and present, courtesy of Apple Music, the main sponsor of the performance. With a phone call and a clear nod to the introduction of the music video for «Confessions Pt. II» from 2004, celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders, Odell Beckham Jr, Marshawn Lynch, and even Usher himself assured a much younger Usher that, in the future (specifically, 20 years later), he would fulfill one of his greatest professional dreams.

The news coincided with the 20th anniversary of «Confessions,» an immensely successful album with over 18 million physical copies sold. This celebration will be accompanied by a new studio album, «Coming Home,» scheduled for release on February 9, the same weekend as the Super Bowl. Usher describes it as a «love letter to the legacy of my career… a celebration of music and reconnecting with some of the people I’ve worked with in my past. I always wanted to work with composers with whom I’ve made number-one records. In a way, I’m coming home because I’m in that comfort zone. When you’re home, you’re comfortable, you feel connected, you elevate, and you’re inspired. There’s a lot of honesty, and also some nods to what we’ve done before.»

How Long Does the Super Bowl Halftime Show Last?

The Super Bowl halftime performance has become one of the biggest milestones and challenges in the world of music and entertainment. One reason is that, in a very short time, one must choose and plan very meticulously what to show and which songs to perform…

Similarly, it features industry giants, renowned artists with a long history, so they must condense an entire career into the 13 to 15 minutes of the show, with all that entails: pre-production, production, setting up any type of platform on the stadium turf, and post-production (dismantling) in record time.

As for Usher, he was more than convinced that his moment at the Super Bowl was «destined to happen,» and he is clear: «Those thirteen minutes are everything,» but what is truly special for him is being able to «perform on a stage that so many top-level artists have passed through and have done incredible work.» A stage that will also be the largest he has ever performed on, and where he will likely present the shortest show of his life.

Possible Guest Artists for Usher

Once the headliner was known, it was time to speculate, or rather wish, if he would have guest artists on stage. Rihanna faced the challenge solo —accompanied by her second baby and a large cast of dancers—; while Coldplay surrounded themselves with Bruno Mars and Beyoncé (who brought together Destiny’s Child with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams). Shakira and JLo, for example, also had Bad Bunny and J Balvin.

All aspects surrounding this brief mega-concert are a mystery, but if Usher doesn’t want to experience it alone, he could call on contemporaries like Ludacris, Lil Jon, David Guetta, A$AP Rocky, Pitbull, Pharrell, or Future; but also younger artists like Justin Bieber, Gunna, Nicki Minaj, or Jung Kook.

As for the setlist, we could venture to include some essentials: from «Yeah!» and «DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again» to «Without You» and «Somebody to Love (remix)» or «Standing Next To You.»
