Have you ever been curious about those genius artists behind the creation of the hits of the year? Keityn is undoubtedly one of those brilliant writers that has greatly contributed to the urban and latin genre with his sweeping talent.

The three time Latin Grammy nominee has received another recognition for his work by becoming the songwriter of the year at the 2023 ASCAP Latin Music Awards! The first time winner is one of the minds behind iconic hits like Karol G & Nicki Minaj’sTusa’, Shakira’sTe Felicito’ and ‘Monotonía’ (and even her #53 session with Bizarrap!) and several songs of Bad Bunny’s latest album Un Verano Sin Ti.

But we want to know more about this young hitmaker who is even part of a new generation of innovative artists leading the scene!

His Path to Success

Keityn (born Kevyn Mauricio Cruz Romer) started composing at a very young age: he was only 14 years old when his mother gave him a small guitar. Since then, he has been creating and experimenting with new lyrics and rhythms.

He grew in Palmira, a city in southwestern Colombia, in the Valle del Cauca. When he turned 21, Keityn moved to Cali with his manager, who opened him the doors of the industry. Only a couple months after, he was one of the composers of Culpables’ for Manuel Turizo, which had a great success. «From that point on, everything happened», he said to the Colombian radio ‘La 92’.

The process of music creation for Keityn has always been quite natural and relative. “Songs flow, I can create in the studio, in the car, it can come from nothing, it’s a very relative thing”, he has previously explained.

Only a short time later, Keytin started to collaborate with other big names such as Maluma, J.Balvin, Feid, Nicky Jam or Karol G. In fact, the legendary ‘Tusa’ has been one of the biggest hits of his career, together with ‘Provenza’, Shakira & Rauw Alejandro’s ‘Te Felicito’ and Bad Bunny’s ‘Me porto Bonito’. His brilliant trajectory has given him the name of ‘el Lápiz de Oro’, thanks to its ingenuity and creative capacity.

Can you imagine the feeling of listening to your own lyrics everywhere? It must be simply incredible! And seems to be one of Keityn’s favorite sensations. «It’s very satisfying to hear the song once it is finished. And to have it performed by someone that’s so great… it makes you feel that it was all worth it, it’s a great feeling», he said in the interview.

Singing His Own Songs

Since October 2023, the Colombian artist maintains an exclusive deal with Warner Music Latina and, since then, he has released songs even as a singer, such as ‘El Egoísmo’ featuring Mike Bahía and Dekko, ‘Nueva Versión’, ‘Repeat’ with Beéle, and ‘Anoche

Although Keityn likes to post videos on social media throwing some verses, we are looking forward to seeing him perform new music!
