Peso Pluma is undoubtedly one of the names of 2023: the Mexican artist has won over the entire globe with his unmistakable style, popularizing corridos tumbados worldwide. That’s why, in the same year as his international fame, he has managed to collaborate with big names in the Latin music industry such as Karol G, Jhayco, El Alfa, and now Arcángel, one of the pioneers in Spanish-language reggaeton and trap.

Both artists star in «La Chamba,» a catchy reggaeton produced by the iconic Tainy, which also intersects nostalgia of Mexican music, without departing from the urban genre. In a music video directed by Omar «Omi» Rivera, alongside the Hollywood actor of Mexican origin, Danny Trejo, Arcángel, and «La Doble P» bring to life two characters working in a taqueria while being involved in an armed gang, with Trejo as the boss. The storyline, therefore, relates to the meaning of the song’s title and chorus.

«La Chamba» Meaning

«Chamba» is actually a term with multiple meanings throughout Latin America, according to the Royal Spanish Academy. In most countries, «chamba» is attributed to the activity of «earning a living,» often in an unstable or sporadic manner. In some countries like Nicaragua, it also means «cash or tip.» According to the lyrics of «La Chamba,» the word in this case alludes to the act of working and the reward obtained as a result. This is significant because although both artists seem to work in the restaurant, they also simulate being involved in illicit business, a theme that reggaeton and trap artists love to explore when alluding to having a lot of money.

«They say that work dignifies a person, and since I was a child, I’ve loved THE JOB!! I already told you what my favorite sport is, and that’s working for what’s mine! There’s no race more hardworking than the Latino, and we prove it wherever we stand! TOMORROW at 8 pm Puerto Rico time, we’re coming out with LA CHAMBA Feat. @pesopluma dedicated to all the neighborhoods of Latin America and the entire world, dedicated to those hardworking and dreamy people willing to sacrifice everything to achieve their goals,» wrote Arcángel to announce the song’s release through his social media.

«La Chamba» Lyrics in English:

Wey, wey, weh
(I’m a guy who comes from the bottom)
My favorite sport is making money (yeah)
I work and hustle for mine
Okay, okay, okay, okay, haha
That’s my favorite sport
How hard, how hard
I’m a guy who comes from the bottom
I’m not afraid of work
I just like the job
Since I was a kid, I’ve been into the job
I’m a guy who comes from the bottom
I’m not afraid of work
I just like the job (hey)
As a child, I had to work (yeah, yeah)
Hey, since I was a child (oh)
I have bastards throwing at me because I’m better (better, ah, hey)
I never cared about anything, I went full throttle (no, no, no)
Now that I’m older (What happened?)
I have these a****les with their bitches in heat
Making that p***y sweat, as if it were a fan (ah, wow)
Entrepreneur without wearing a tie (yey)
Moving musical kilos put me on the map (Nope)
I stayed real, and the street has my data
They know well what we did, those who didn’t turn rat (hey)
Yes, sir, your girl wants to sway
Remember that my shooters all have lasers (pew, pew, pew)
Full of hitmen, the Blazer is full
We give it to you from afar like the Pacers
Let’s go to work, and the truck is full of gasoline (wuh)
With pure product, straight from the hill
It sells expensive and is used more than vitamin (hey)
I know it’s not good, but the USA people love it (wuh)
I’m a guy who comes from the bottom
I’m not afraid of work
I just like the job
As a child, I had to work
I’m a guy who comes from the bottom
I’m not afraid of work (yeah)
I just like the job
As a child, I had to work
Being thrown at seems normal to me
I’m faster than them, and I don’t have a FastPass
Since I was a child, I knew what it meant to work
I was born for this; I’m not going to change
I got everything for them
Without being Al Capone, I got the packages in
I live in the big leagues
More than thirty arenas, I turned into millions, and
I’m a guy who comes from the bottom (bottom)
I’m not afraid of work
I just like the job
As a child, I got into the job
I’m a guy who comes from the bottom
I’m not afraid of work
I just like the job
As a child, I had to work
Hey, yo, yeah
Austin, baby
Tainy
El Doble P with Arca, man
Auh
Straight from La Calma Suite
Prra, haha
Feeling, Elegance, and More Evil, yeah
