Upcoming Concerts and Release with Benny Jr

Question (Q): Trueno, you are back to music. In this case, with Beny JR. Why did you bet on him for your comeback?

Trueno: It’s a song that we did in 2021, on my first tour in Spain. Imagine, it’s been a long time. I always listened to their music, of Benny and Morad, we were always in touch. I went to the hood with them, we got to know each other. I like to meet people to record. I care a lot about the message they give to the children of the hood, the example they are for them. And the music they make, how they also project the future for those kids. They are people that I like very much and we connected quickly, we get along very well. Benny and I have to release  our song for the Spanish summer so that it breaks.

Q: I am very surprised that you are now releasing a song that came out in 2021. Have you changed many things from that initial lyric?

Trueno: Well, that happened a little bit too, like we got together in the studio, we threw it together quickly and it came out, and it was amazing.  And then we got a little more meticulous and started to produce the song more. Benny told me that he wanted to record new things, so we gave it that touch up and I think it turned out amazing. I think it’s a very danceable and happy song to listen to. So we decided to release it now in the summer so that people can dance to it when they have their free time.

Q: And when is this song with Benny going to be released?

Trueno: Very soon, before I go to Spain on tour, the song will be out.

Q: Well, you have the first date on June 3 at the Primavera Sound, so it has to be coming soon.

Trueno: It’s coming out now. They told me that Primavera Sound is a very important festival. Not only in Spain, but in Europe. Whenever we go to such a big festival I like it very much because, beyond being able to give my show to the public, one lives with many artists. Maybe there is a very big artist that you idolize and you can go to see the show. So it’s good to share in those spaces.

Q: Speaking of artists, have you talked to any artist to appear on stage in some of your shows?

Trueno: The idea is that wherever Benny is, we play together. That would be great. We are there coordinating all the things.

Q: Is this new single with Beny Jr going to be part of something bigger? An album?

Trueno: Very good question. I think it’s important to say it too, and proudly so. This single is only for the people of Spain. This is made for the people of Spain, they have been asking me for it for years and it is a song that we released exclusively for them, so that they can enjoy the summer with this song, so that they can enjoy it. Then I am working on a very big project that I don’t know when it will come out.

Q: You are going to be in Spain for a while, are you going to meet someone to compose in the studio?

Trueno: That comes up when you get to know the artists. I’m a big fan of Spanish urban music and native music as well. And whenever I have a little time on tour I go to the studio – either with an artist or to do my own songs. But surely I’ll cross paths with some artists from there. I’ll probably do something with a producer. That’s for sure.

Q: And of the festivals where you are going to perform, are you looking forward to seeing any of your fellow artists in particular?

Trueno: Well, I think on this tour we’re sharing with Kendrick Lamar and Baby King, right? I think they’re beastly, both of them. Also, we share culture, they represent hip hop in a very viral way.  I’ve never seen either of them live. And I’m really a follower of what they do. They represent the same thing I do and they do it very well.

Q: Since you started your career, have you seen much change in the global music scene?

Trueno: I think that the Spanish language today is very strong and rightfully so in music. I feel that there are no hierarchies, no higher levels than others, no pyramid system of this starts here and goes down. I feel that music is universal. You always have to respect the beginnings and understand that rap was born in New York, in the Bronx and everything that happened. But you also have to understand how it expanded and that hip hop is a truly global thing.

Q: On February 10 you tweeted, «this year is ours». Why is this the year of Trueno?

Trueno: It’s something I share when focused in the studio, knowing how good the tracks we are making are and how happy I am. As I told you before, we are in a very big project and very important for me too. I am an artist who always likes to immerse myself in long and big projects to be able to tell a story and expand in an extensive way.

Q: Are we going to hear it before the end of 2023?

Trueno: Maybe, maybe. The truth is that for now I haven’t set a release date. I want to have everything well finished to set a date. I want it to come out now.

Trueno and the New Generations and More Collabs

Q: Let’s talk about the new generations of artists. Young Miko, Milo J…. How do you think the new urban music scene is shaping up?

Trueno: Yes, the truth is that I really like the way they rap. Because they rap cool. Here in Argentina things are happening, there are guys coming out with a message. I like that. They don’t make music just for the sake of it, they do it because they really have something to say, a story to tell, they come from a neighborhood, they come from a reality and they have something to tell the world.

Q: Do you see yourself collaborating with any American artists again after JID?

Trueno: Yes, the United States has always been a great source of very good music and a lot of talent because it is a very big country and has a lot of Afro-descendant culture. African music, for me, is the most beautiful music there is. It has influenced other genres in the United States such as rap, drill, trap and everything that is being played now. To me as a hip hopper, as a rapper and as part of this community I respect the United States in that sense because it’s like the country where everything happened and these genres were born. So whenever we can go there, whenever we can collaborate with some legend, with some rap icon from there, I’ll go there. For me it’s great because it’s to make a connection and show that country how in Argentina we took and put other condiments, another way of rapping, other flavors and another formula.

Q: Many of your fans are asking for a new collaboration with Duki, is it coming?

Trueno: With Duko? Trueno: Sure. Duko is a capo. El Duko is my friend’s capo. I think all Argentine artists recognize him as a guy who was very generous with a scene and with a country. He was not bovista with his success and chose to expand it with his friends to create a scene. That is very respectable. We always cross paths, so the new music with Duko will surely come out.

Q: Finally, I’d like to know which artists that are starting to make it big would you like to see in a Bizarrap Session.

Trueno: I think it would be good, thinking as an Argentine audience, in a session with Milo J. He is very talented.

Q: And what is your favorite Biza session?

Trueno: I’m going to go to the oldest ones, the ones from my time. I remember that the one I listened to the most was Aleman. Aleman left for me, Aleman ate up the studio.
