No doubt, 2023 has been a phenomenal year for Taylor Swift. She embarked on a massive tour, The Eras Tour, covering the United States, Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. She also dropped albums like Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and for the first time, she became the most-streamed artist worldwide on Spotify. And now, she can proudly add the title of ‘Person of the Year’ by Time magazine to her long list of achievements.
In light of this honor, Taylor sat down for an in-depth interview, which seems like the perfect way to wrap up this magical year, just a week shy of her 34th birthday. During the interview, she opened up about her journey and how she’s evolved in her career over the years, from her early days to the adventure of re-recording her first six albums to regain full control of her music. She likens this journey to feeling like the hero of a movie, saying, “I’m collecting horcruxes; I’m collecting Infinity Stones. It’s like I have Gandalf’s voice in my head [‘My Precious’] every time I release a new album. It’s like a movie to me.”
In her own words, two of the most challenging experiences in her career have shaped her into the person she is today. The first was the public scrutiny she faced during her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian over a manipulated phone call. The second was her legal battle to gain ownership of her master recordings after her catalog was sold to Scooter Braun.
“That whole ordeal had a devastating impact on my mental health like never before. I relocated to a foreign country. I didn’t even leave my rented house for a year. I was afraid to answer phone calls. I distanced myself from most people because I couldn’t trust anyone anymore. I hit rock bottom,” Taylor shared about her feud with the rapper.
