Now it’s really happening: the countdown to Selena Gomez’s musical comeback has begun although she’s never really left. And it’s worth recalling that the artist has been topping global charts alongside Rema with «Calm Down» since late 2022. But now it’s her turn to release a song that’s entirely hers. And we won’t have to wait long.

This time, Selena Gomez returns solo and in English (setting aside the entirely Spanish EP that was Revelación). Selena Gomez has announced «Single Soon.» And no, it’s not just that the single will arrive soon; it’s actually the title of the song. That’s how fun she is. The song, to the delight of all her fans, is arriving in just one week: next Friday, August 25th. So, there’s not much waiting.

Y’all have been asking for new music for a while. Since I’m not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer. SINGLE SOON. August 25th» the singer wrote on her social media alongside the announcement.

Furthermore, Selena has shared the cover of the single where she looks stunning like a true star which she is, looking into the camera and wearing a coat full of pink fur. In the same post, she shared some images that seem to be from the music video shoot.

A clue about the lyrics of «Single Soon»?

Selena is pictured surrounded by a vibrant array of clothing. She’s also seen alongside two cheerful friends, all smiles as they strike poses within a luxurious limousine. However, it’s the last picture that holds the most intriguing clues about the song, an arrangement of various objects: stylish sunglasses, a video game controller, photographic negatives, and a casual post-it note. It’s this final detail that might be giving us a sneak peek into the lyrics: «I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me.»

It seems that Selena is once again going to explore a theme that’s very recurrent in her songs: self-love. Indeed, the artist has true anthems on this subject, like «My Mind and Me» or «Lose You to Love Me.» We’ll have to wait to hear the complete result of this new song.

August 25: Which Former Disney Star Will Dominate the Charts?

Less than 48 hours separate us from the final music release Friday of August, accompanied by a remarkable occurrence: three former Disney stars (Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande) are intended to dominate the charts with new music and live renditions of past hits (the last one is exclusive to Ariana, who will celebrate the tenth anniversary of her debut album Yours Truly from August 25 to 30).

With this date on the horizon, over the past few days, we’ve observed how these artists have been dropping hints about what’s to come. However, one thing is certain: Selena Gomez has taken it to the next level.

Single Coming Soon

Following the appearance of nameless and dateless posters on streets across the United States, directing passersby to a phone number where a message from her sister Gracie advised (advised us) to ignore men, Selena revealed the song’s name and release date for «Single Soon» and moved on to the next phase.

In the past hours, she shared a video on her TikTok account that quickly went viral on social media. Within its first 13 hours, it garnered more than 17.4 million views and received 3 million likes only on this platform.

What Caused this Sensation?

Selena Gomez paid tribute to one of the defining series of the turn of the century: «Sex and the City.» Specifically, she used an audio snippet featuring Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) from the first season episode of the series, in which we witness her engaged in a phone call with a man who left his wife to be with her.

‘Hello?’ It’s over, I’ve told my wife–. ‘Who’s calling?’ is the audible excerpt. The only accompanying message to the video, lasting merely seven seconds, is ‘Single Soon this Friday.’ In it, Selena Gomez proudly continues to showcase her single status.

Kim Cattrall saw the clip on ‘X’ (the platform formerly known as Twitter), and re-posted the video.
