By this point, it’s almost impossible to have never heard a song by Quevedo. The young Canary Islander, at just 21 years old, has managed to capture the attention of the entire global music industry with unprecedented success alongside the Argemtome star producer, Bizarrap.

But what’s the story behind this precocious star who was born in Madrid, raised in Brazil, and in less than three years of his artistic career, has taken over international charts and ended up performing in a sold-out stadium in Miami alongside Karol G? We’ll tell you.

Pedro Luis Domínguez de Quevedo (2001) has always been a quiet guy that loved music. After finishing high school in Gran Canaria, he started studying Business Administration at the university, but with the arrival of COVID, he reconnected with a friend who reminded him of the importance of music to him. They started meeting up, recording together again, and created a group called «Los Incomprendidos» (The Misunderstood). However, the duo would soon go separate ways, as the Canarian began to take it more and more seriously. But «there was no Plan B,» as Quevedo stated on the Nude Project podcast. Thus, the singer worked on his artistic creation until his future manager invited him to go to the Spanish capital.

«I don’t make commercial music just because it works. I like reggaeton, what can I do?,» he affirms. Spain’s most revealing young promise alongside Rosalía was clear that he wanted to conquer the urban genre. And so, in 2020, his musical journey began with the producer Linton, and they quickly made a name for themselves in the national scene. His first hit, «Ahora Y Siempre,» released in 2021, reached number 19 among Spotify’s most viral songs worldwide, and secured the second spot on Spain’s top 50 most viral songs.

Straight to Stardom: «Cayó La Noche Remix» & Meeting Bizarrap

However, the song that truly propelled Quevedo was the explosive collab «Cayó La Noche Remix», alongside other artists from the Canary Islands like Bejo or Cruz Cafuné. One of the most epic collaborations of 2022, where Quevedo’s style undoubtedly shone brightly. The song topped the charts of the most viral tracks in Spain and worldwide. Increasingly on the path to success within the music industry, Quevedo continues to team up with international artists to elevate his artist profile even further. This is the case with «Fernet,» his song with Rei, and another of his significant moments, «2Step» with Ed Sheeran.

In the same month of July 2022, the BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 52 would completely transform Quevedo’s career and life forever. His iconic «Quédate» (Stay) reached 10 million views in just one day on YouTube, becoming the most listened-to song globally on Spotify. An unprecedented phenomenon achieved by a Spanish artist before, the «quééééédate» had become a genuine sensation, solidifying the increasingly evident dominance of Spanish-language urban music on international charts.

It’s even dizzying to think that the chorus that would catapult him and the Argentine producer to the top was almost removed from the song, as the artist himself mentioned in an interview with the Spanish late-night show La Resistencia.

On the Top of the World

Quevedo had already been crowned the global breakthrough artist of the year, but he didn’t stop there. He knew this was his moment, so he continued a highly successful 2022 with previews of what would become his debut album, releasing tracks like «Sin Señal», in collaboration with the iconic Ovy on The Drums, «Vista al Mar», and «Punto G,» among others. However, the strength of the «Columbia» interpreter lies in collaborations, as shown in «APA» alongside Mora or the iconic «Playa del Inglés» with Myke Towers, paying homage to one of Gran Canaria’s beaches.

Quevedo released his highly anticipated debut album, Donde Quiero Estar, on January 20, 2023, becoming one of the highly anticipated Spanish-language studio works of the year. With a rhythm revolving around renewed reggaeton, featuring a fresh and distinctive style, this young artist, at just 21 years old, has managed to establish himself as one of the leaders of the new generation of urban artists.

After singing his most popular song alongside «La Bichota» in a sold-out Miami stadium, we wonder: what’s next, Quevedo?
