P!nk Left Shocked on Stage

A fan threw her dead mother’s ashes on stage while she was performing

During the history of music shows, it has been pretty normal for fans all over the world to throw things at their favorite artists. They’d toss items like flowers, stuffed toys –lots of Dr. Simis–, love letters, and even underwear! –and unfortunately for some artists like Bebe Rexha, even getting hit in the face with a cell phone– but… can you imagine receiving the ashes of a deceased family member?

Well, that’s exactly what happened to P!nk the past June 25. The 43-year-old singer, who was performing «Just Like a Pill» during the «British Summer Time» in London, was interrupted when one of her fans threw a sealed bag containing a grayish powder. P!nk approached it slowly, curious –and kind of suspicious– about what it could be…»

This is your mom?” the pop star asked the fan, a bit shocked. “I don’t know how to feel about this.”

Pink carefully placed the bag back down on stage and proceeded to finish her performance, trying not to make the scene even more awkward.

Pink is currently promoting her latest album, Trustfall, and even celebrities like Huge Jackman enjoyed her show at Hyde Park –and probably experienced the ashes incident too but didn’t mention it.

On the other hand, they’ve been some other onstage incidents not as comically odd as P!nk’s. The past June 13, a man basically attacked the 29-year-old singer Ava Max at a performance in Los Angeles; he rushed the stage and slapped her before taken off stage by a security guard

«He slapped me so hard that he scratched the inside of my eye. He’s never coming to a show again. Thank you to the fans for being spectacular tonight in LA though!!»

Fun fact

Have you ever wondered how the tradition of throwing things onto stages began?

It’s actually an old tradition. The very first recorded incident happened in 1883 when an actor named John Ritchie got bombarded with tomatoes and rotten eggs in New York City. This practice dates to when people used to throw tomatoes at actors during plays if they didn’t like what they saw or how it was performed. Did you know it?

Currently it’s quite unusual for this to happen since –hopefully– nobody carries tomatoes or rotten eggs with them just in case they come across a show they don’t like. However, its true that throwing objects onto stages has mainly become a practice that shows affection to artists rather than being an act of hatred, sometimes it looks the opposite... If you don’t believe this, here are some videos of Harry Styles being hit onstage or is Harry a plush toy magnet?

At least Harry is getting some peaceful time without plush toys, shoes and even flying skittles after he announced he’ll be offstage for a while, but surely, we’re going to miss him in the meantime.

@uproxxpop While Skittles definitely shouldn’t be thrown on stage, is there anything that fans throw on stage that’s acceptable? [credit: Twitter / Popline] #harrystyles #skittles #fans #concert ♬ original sound – UPROXX Pop Life
