It’s no secret that this is the year of Peso Pluma. The Mexican singer has experienced a meteoric rise in the music industry in just one year. Thanks to his style and original lyrics, the Doble P has managed to take the corridos tumbados that Natanael Cano put on the map to another level. He recently released his latest album Genesis, and today one of the most popular tracks has reached number 1 on the Lista LOS40 USA.
It’s «LADY GAGA» (the name itself promised a triumph like this, in honor of our iconic pop diva) alongside Mexican singers Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H, other big figures in the international expansion of Mexican music.
«Dom Pérignon Lady Gaga, lentes en la cara, tusi y lavada / Triple lavada / y una bandida que me llama / quieren mi lana», that’s how this recent successful song begins, illustrating precisely its main theme, similar to other songs by the Mexican star. A song with a certain nostalgic tone for luxury, pleasure, and fame.
The podium is completed by the Californian band Fuerza Regida with «Sabor Fresa,» in the second position, and the superstar reggaeton artist Myke Towers with the catchy and sensual «LALA,» which has undoubtedly become one of the 2023 summer hits, moving down to the third position after leading the chart last week.
It’s clear that the «Double P» wasn’t satisfied with just reaching number one again or being the artist with the most songs on the Lista LOS40 USA(more than a dozen, from the viral «Ella Baila Sola» with Eslabón Armado to his recent «QUEMA» alongside Ryan Castro). The Mexican artist also features in the only new entry on the chart alongside the iconic Karol G with «QLONA.» The song has amassed more than 18 million views in less than 2 weeks! Both artists are currently at the peak of their careers, each being a reference in their own style. So, obviously, a collaboration blending both styles could only be a success.
Undoubtedly, our Karol G is celebrating this milestone along with many other joys and projects she’s experiencing, like her record-breaking sales on her first stadium tour in the U.S., or the successful release of her recent Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), the B-side of her acclaimed Mañana Será Bonito, released in March of this year.
Without a doubt, our Lista LOS40 USA is a clear reflection of everything happening in the Latin music scene, its success, and internationalization. Mexican music (we know that «Regional Mexicano» isn’t the best term to refer to it, we’ve learned from Carín León) and Reggaeton rule the industry, and we’re here to celebrate it.
And you? Which artists do you expect to see on the next week’s Lista LOS40 USA?
