Peso Pluma, without a doubt, stands as one of the artists who have left an indelible mark in 2023, and there seems to be no intention of him slowing down anytime soon. Pluma has not only captured the hearts of Mexican audiences with his music but has also resonated with listeners worldwide.

In reality, even within Mexico, not everyone leans toward Mexican music as their preferred genre, given the vast diversity of musical styles. However, La Double P has achieved the remarkable accomplishment of drawing even more people into this genre, filling Mexico with a sense of pride. This sentiment extends to the broader Latino community, which equally shares in the pride of their compatriot’s success.

This edition represents a significant milestone in Pluma’s career, marking his inaugural invitation to the VMAs. It’s safe to say that this won’t be the last.

He got nominated in some highly competitive categories, including Song of the Summer and Best Latin Video for the massive hit «La Bebe (Remix)» alongside Yng Lvcas. Additionally, he secured a nomination for Best New Artist, although the award ultimately went to Ice Space, a rapper from the Bronx.

What sets Pluma apart is his historic performance at the awards ceremony, as he’s the first star to perform Mexican music corridos tumbadosat the VMAs stage with his song “Lady Gaga.”

What’s a bit intriguing was his unconventional stage presence, departing from the traditional Mexican music aesthetic. He appeared on stage in an oversized jacket, sporting large shades that covered a significant portion of his face, and baggy pants. This ensemble gave him the appearance of a drill artist rather than a typical corridos tumbados artist.

Nevertheless, this distinctive style adds to his appeal, showcasing his inclination towards a street-inspired aesthetic while staying true to his bold and unapologetic lifestyle.

The performance commenced with a stirring orchestral arrangement of violins, followed by the resounding entry of the bajo quinto, creating an electrifying anticipation in the audience. As Peso Pluma took the stage and began to sing, the crowd erupted in a warm and enthusiastic welcome.

     Y arriba México, viejo!”
