Olivia Rodrigo recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, where they had a wide-ranging conversation. They talked about various things, like how her parents are handling her fame, her time at university –which can be quite intimidating even for celebrities like her–, and even her considerations for naming her next album.
Despite her substantial fan base and successful careers in both acting and music, Rodrigo chose to keep learning and improve as an artist. In 2022, she enrolled at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, a respected music school in Los Angeles, where she took music production classes. But it turns out that her university experience had a rough start. She told Kimmel about her early days in class, which were a bit nerve-wracking.
Olivia Rodrigo says her first day in college was “absolutely terrifying”:
“I had no friends, didn’t know where to go and I actually walked into the wrong class […] I sat there the whole time and I was like ‘I’m in the wrong class’”. pic.twitter.com/5n1JdpxAmJ

Despite the bumpy beginning, her time at university clearly had a positive impact on her music. During a surprise concert in Los Angeles recently, she revealed that her song «Lacy» started as a class project. “I took poetry classes, and one of the poems I wrote for an assignment that I loved was called ‘Lucy.’ Dan, my music producer, helped me turn it into a song,” Olivia explained.
Rodrigo has the chance to win some awards at the upcoming LOS40 Music Awards in Santander on November 3rd. She’s nominated in two categories: Best Artist or Group in the International Category and Best Album for GUTS. In the first category, she faces tough competition from artists like Dua Lipa, Loreen, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Sam Smith. And in the second category, her album is up against works by Lewis Capaldi, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, and Ed Sheeran.
