Miley Cyrus, Adele and Other Artists that Stepped Away from World Tours

This massive concert-runs involve a wide range of sacrifices

For many fans world tours of major international stars are their only chance to see their idols every 3-4 years on the occasion of their album releases.

But more and more often we find artists who have decided to sacrifice profitability for mental health. Miley Cyrus, Adele, Kate Bush, Elton John… have reduced or even announced their retirement from the stage in recent years.

Miley’s Reason to Stay Away from World Tours

The latest to highlight this trend to reduce the massiveness of the concerts of the big names in the music industry has been Miley. In an very commented interview with the British edition of Vogue magazine she showed her detachment towards a world tour like the ones she used to do in her origins.

«After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t. Not only ‘can’t’” she self-corrects, “because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own? And, you know what…» confesses Miley Cyrus leaving the reflection in the air about the feeling she has in front of the world tours.

That’s not to say that the artist has not had massive concerts and in front of large audiences. But not as part of something as extensive as a world tour. In fact, it’s been almost a decade since she last offered a full tour of all 5 continents (yes, since Bangerz Tour). That’s not to say that she hasn’t performed and practically with every album since then she has offered concerts here and there but always under that idea she confessed during the interview.

«Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?»Miley Cyrus, on world tours

A feeling that she developed further on her social media due to the polemic public reaction she received after the publication of the interview:

«For clarity, I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win, we win. Even if I don’t see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart. I’m constantly creating and innovating ways to stay connected to the audience I love – without sacrificing my own essentials», she wrote on her Instagram account.

«Performing for YOU has been the best days of my life and we’ll continue this journey together as we have for the last almost two decades. This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans and everything to do with simply not wanting to be prepared and ready in a locker room, which is the reality of life on the road», she tried to explain. “I don’t want to sleep on a moving bus. It’s not the best thing for me right NOW and if you’ve been following my career you know that I’m always changing and so might the way I feel about that could too. Love you forever. I’m on my Endless Summer Vacation right now».

From Adele to Elton John: Stepping Away the Stages After Conquering The World

Miley tried to explain that there are other ways to promote an album and present it to her audience that don’t include 70 concerts in countries all over the world. A perception similar to what has happened with Adele after the release of 30.

The promotion of this album, the fourth in the career of one of the most successful British artists, has not had a world tour. Nor does it look like it will. Because the 30-year-old Adele is no longer the 19-year-old who wanted to conquer the world. She has already achieved it and her life now includes a child from whom she does not want to separate for months and whom she does not want to take out on a grueling tour of dozens of countries.

In fact, it took almost 2,000 days for Adele to start the concerts of her Las Vegas residency after she had to postpone it due to delays in setting up her stage. The fact that she had been absent from live shows caused her cache to rise. 32 million for her shows, which only a few lucky ones are able to enjoy.

Right now it’s been 6 years since the British singer has starred in a world tour. And it seems that she won’t miss it any time soon. Although, as it has happened with Miley, we will never say never.

Those who have decided to take a definitive break from the stage to focus on the more creative part of their careers have been Kate Bush and Elton John. The performer has not offered a series of concerts on U.S. soil for a decade, although it is common to see her starring in television presentations or charity shows.

And talking about of Sir Eltohn John, he’s trying to say goodbye to the stages and it seems that this July he could the British icon could deliver his last show. That doesn’t mean he’ll stop composing, creating and making us enjoy his music. But his personal life also demands protagonism.
