How Did Måneskin Come to Be?
Well, Victoria De Angelis and Thomas Raggi, who met during high school, are the ones who started it all. In 2015, driven by their love for music, they decided to form the band. A little while later, Damiano David, who was also their high school buddy, joined them. Then, after posting an ad on Facebook to find a drummer, they discovered Ethan Torchio.
What’s Does ‘Måneskin’ Mean & Why Did they Choose that Name?
So, ‘Måneskin’ translates to ‘moonlight’ in Danish. They came up with the name during one of their early gigs at ‘The Pulse Contest 2016,’ which was an emerging band competition held in Rome. Before that show, the band brainstormed to name the band, as they needed a registered name to participate. After considering several proposals, they settled on ‘Måneskin’ because De Angelis, one of the founders, has Danish roots. They considered it the perfect word, even though it didn’t really relate to their music or style.
The Early Days
The band members began their journey on the streets of Italy. Between 2015 and 2017, they often congregated in the heart of Rome, specifically on Via del Corso, where they played to earn some money with the aim of raising funds for recording in a studio. During this time, they also gained popularity on social media.
The X Factor Journey
In 2017, Måneskin decided to give ‘The X Factor’ a shot. They took part in the Italian version’s eleventh season. During the competition, they really caught the audience’s attention with their covers of songs like «Let’s Get It Started» by Black Eyed Peas, «Somebody Told Me» by The Killers, and «Beggin» by The Four Seasons. They even debuted their first single, «Chosen,» which later became a big hit in Italy and earned them several platinum records.
Opening for Imagine Dragons and The Rolling Stones
On September 6, 2018, they got the chance to be the opening act for Imagine Dragons during their fall tour. And if that wasn’t cool enough, they also opened for The Rolling Stones at the final show of their American tour in Las Vegas on November 6, 2021.
