Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have successfully come to an agreement during their divorce proceedings, indicating a unified front in their decision-making. Following four days of mediation last week, Joe and Sophie focused primarily on child custody matters since their prenuptial agreement appeared to have settled asset-related issues, as reported by TMZ.
The central point of contention in their dispute revolved around where their children would reside. Sophie, being British, expressed her desire for the children to live with her in the UK, while Joe, quite naturally, preferred them to stay in the United States with him. According to legal documents obtained from TMZ, it’s stated that “an amicable resolution on all issues between them is forthcoming.”
In the meantime, the former couple has agreed to a temporary child custody plan. Starting from October 9 through October 21, Sophie will have custody of their two children, who are aged 1 and 3. During this period, she has the permission to travel with them to the UK. On October 21, Sophie must return to the U.S. with the children, at which point Joe will take over their care until November 2.
Following that, the children will be back with Sophie until November 22. Joe will have custody on that day, likely spending Thanksgiving with them. Sophie will once again have custody from December 16 until January 7, allowing her to be with the children for Christmas and New Year’s.
Before reaching their recent agreement, Sophie Turner strongly insisted that Joe Jonas return their kids to England. Turner’s legal team began the process of claiming ‘wrongful retention’ on September 20. She argued that during conversations held over Christmas 2022, as they prepared for the year ahead, she and the 34-year-old musician agreed that England would be their «forever home,» according to People.
When Jonas started touring with The Jonas Brothers, they agreed that the children would join him because he had more daytime availability to spend with them, considering Turner’s busy filming schedule. It’s worth noting that she expressed some reservations about this ‘temporary arrangement.’
According to Turner, their marriage suddenly broke down after a heated argument on August 15. Jonas filed for divorce on September 5, and Turner found out about their separation ‘through the media’ just days later. The issue of child custody became a major point of contention when the two met up two weeks after their split to discuss their next steps. At least, this latest arrangement demonstrates their commitment to finding common ground for the well-being of their family during this challenging time.
