To this day, it’s hard to believe that there are still people who haven’t heard about Grupo Frontera or their hit songs such as ‘No se va,’ their collaboration with Bad Bunny in ‘1x100to,’ and their song with Peso Pluma, ‘Tulum’. However, as the band has shared, it all began as a pastime that turned into a dream come true.

Grupo Frontera Beginnings

Founded in early 2022 within the Texas Valley, with origins tracing back to Tamaulipas and Nuevo León (Mexico), Grupo Frontera is a collective of talents. The ensemble features Adelaido Solís III «Payo» as the lead vocalist and bajoquinto player. Joining the ranks are Julián Peña Jr., skillfully handling the percussion, while Carlos Frontera holds the rhythmic reins as the drummer. Alberto Acosta lends his artistry to the role of the group’s guitarist, while Carlos Zamora takes command of the bass. Completing the ensemble’s dynamic sound is Juan Javier Cantú, serving as both the accordionist and second vocalist.

In that same year, the group decided to embark on their musical journey and began uploading videos of their covers on YouTube, without anticipating the success that awaited them.

Grupo Frontera’s cover of the song ‘No se va,’ originally by the Colombian band Morat, achieved remarkable success, culminating in their reception of a Latin American Music Award in the category of Best Mexican Regional Song of the Year for their interpretation.

‘No se va’

The song is originally by the Colombian band Morat and was released in 2018. Morat’s official music video for the song was premiered on March 2, 2019, and has over 250 million views to date.

The song gained popularity due to its relatable lyrics (and Morat’s popullarity), which convey themes of longing, heartbreak, and the challenge of letting go of a past love. This is particularly evident in the chorus «tu recuerdo no se va, no se va, no se va,» translated to «your memory doesn’t go away.»

This repetition emphasizes the idea that the memory of the person being referred to is persistent and enduring, indicating that their memory lingers and remains in the singer’s mind despite their efforts to move on or forget.

Te buscaré aunque suene locoDe Bogotá hasta Buenos Aires¿Cómo te explico que no sé olvidar?

Ya no sé disimularTe amo y no te puedo hablarTú recuerdo no se va, no se va, no se va

Translation:

I will look for you even if it sounds crazy
From Bogota to Buenos Aires
How do I explain that I can’t forget?

I no longer know how to hide
I love you and I can’t talk to you
Your memory does not go away, it does not go away, it does not go away

Grupo Frontera’s cover was released on April 28, 2022, and has over 435 million views, nearly twice the number of views compared to the original version.
