Yandel (born Llandel Veguilla) is one of the pioneers of reggaeton and still one of the biggest representatives of the genre after more than 20 years shaking the scene up worldwide.

He just released his latest album ‘Resistencia‘, which includes hot collabs with his partner in crime Wisin and also with Young Miko, Tiago PZK, Arcángel, Farina, Ñejo & Dálmata and Eladio Carrión, among others.

The Puerto Rican star has visited Spain to participate in ‘Los40 Primavera Pop‘ event and we’ve talked to him about his incredible success with ‘Yandel 150‘ featuring Colombian hitmaker Feid, but also about his new music, solo career, the reggaeton boom in the United States and upcoming events in the country.

His collab with Quevedo, ‘Yandel 150’ and other featurings

During his interview in Los40 Urban program, he shared that he came to Spain for several reasons; one of them was meeting Quevedo to make a music collab. «Tomorrow I’ll go to the studio with Quevedo and Ovy on the drums will be the producer. I really like Quevedo, his talent, his music, his voice… it’s quite genuine», he stated, confirming his ‘junte’ with the ‘Cayó La Noche’ singer.

‘Captain Yandel’ also talked about his collab featuring Wisin and Rosalía, bringing back to the present ‘Besos Mojados‘. «Wisin and I wanted to make a remix of an old school song. We asked Rosalía which one did she wanna make and she went for ‘Besos Mojados’. I like it because young generations feel this is a new song», he said, also taking the opportunity to share his thoughts about the Spanish singer’s success. «For me Rosalía is one of the top female artist and also a great person», he added.

We also spoke about his collaborations with rising artist Young Miko and the chart-topping hit ‘Yandel 150‘. «This collab with Feid is very special for me. He brought me the song and he even named it. He is a great artist but, as a person, he’s even greater’, he added.

In this sense, he thinks that getting in the studio with new promises of the genre is quite nurturing. «Working with new talents like Feid or Young Miko brings a refreshing vibe to my music, getting it to a new public, new ‘chamaquitos'», he affirmed.

Now he has just worked with other Latin music figures such as Tainy and Rauw Alejandro in Netflix’s ‘La Firma‘ reality show. «We are here to help these new artists, so they don’t have to go through what we went through».

On his solo career and relationship with Wisin

Wisin (real name: Juan Luis Morera) & Yandel started in the industry as a legendary musical duo back in 1998 in Cayey, Puerto Rico. After a pause to their activity, which began in 2013, the duo got reunited in 2018 and went their separate ways again in 2022 after their iconic ‘La Última Misión’ Tour.

According to Yandel, they both enjoy working together, but also want to explore their own styles. «Wisin and I are family. He’s my daughter’s godfather and I’m his son’s godfather. We have been together since we were ‘chamaquitos’. Now that we made it, we also wanted to try our own styles in solo careers. We are separated doing our own thing, but we’re still together» he explained.

Latin Music boom in the US and upcoming concerts

As Billboard has already stated, the US has experienced an increasing demand for Latin Music concerts. Reggaeton is one of the most listened to genres worldwide and that has meant several changes in the way it’s produced and valued. «Reggaeton’s growth is unstoppable. For us, it has been very important that the American artists started paying attention to the genre. When we worked with 50 Cent, Chris Brown, Akon or T-Pain… then we got were we wanted to get», he said.

Yandel feels the great impact Latin music has made in the music industry all over the word and he also annouced future concerts across the US. «I can’t say it yet, but we have a full agenda and we will soon tell you more details», he added.
