Celebrities’ Favorite Restaurants in 2023

We review some of the successful hotspots in different cities around the world

A few days ago, the image of Rosalía entering the popular Craig’s restaurant in Melrose, West Hollywood (California), with Tokischa went viral. The choice of this place was no coincidence, as we already know that the Catalan artist is adapting perfectly to life in Los Angeles, and this establishment is one of the most frequented by celebrities, where famous personalities like Lizzo, Brad Pitt, Lady Gaga, Leonardo DiCaprio, or Kim Kardashian have dined, among others.

Certainly, celebrities have their own favorite places around the world; some are the most exclusive and private, while others are somewhat more common but equally unique, which you can visit to feel like a star and enjoy the best food in the best company. And if you happen to see a celebrity, even better! Here we gather some restaurants that have become trendy.

Los Angeles – Chateau Marmont

Since opening its doors in 1929, the exclusive Chateau Marmont hotel and restaurant has been a leisure refuge for many celebrities: actors, musicians, directors, writers. In fact, its main motto is «Always a safe haven, always open.» There is a saying in Hollywood that if you want to be seen, go to the Beverly Hills Hotel, but if not, go to Chateau Marmont. And that’s what Miley Cyrus did last week in a private performance that she later shared with her fans.

Inspired by the castle of Amboise, a royal retreat in the French Loire Valley, Chateau Marmont is widely known as a short-to-medium-term residence for celebrities settling in the big city (fun fact: Marilyn Monroe herself stayed here!), but also as a great gastronomic option thanks to its restaurant Chateau Hanare.

The establishment has gained great recognition thanks to the numerous list of familiar faces that have frequented it, such as Lana Del Rey, Lindsay Lohan, and George Clooney, among many others. There, you can enjoy the best delicacies, such as a selection of cured meats (including chorizo and serrano ham) for $26, artisanal cheeses for $18, and various toasts and tartars, with a cuisine halfway between Californian and Mediterranean.

Undoubtedly, Los Angeles is the best city on earth if you want to run into a celebrity while having an $8 beer. Other widely popular places for the jet set include Nobu Malibu, Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, Casa Vega in Sherman Oaks, Sugarfish in Beverly Hills, or The Nice Guy, also in Los Angeles.

New York – Carbone

The Carbone in Greenwich Village in the heart of Manhattan has become a major attraction for A-list celebrities. Reference magazines like Harper’s Bazaar have stated that on any given day, you can see fashionable couples like Justin and Hailey Bieber or Rihanna and ASAP Rocky there. It is also a place regularly frequented by the Kardashian-Jenner family. In addition, it’s where Rosalía celebrated her birthday last year!

In short, it’s an Italo-American must-visit if you’re in the city that never sleeps; even Barack Obama stops by when he’s in the area! Few places come to mind if you want to enjoy a $40 plate of pasta.

Of course, New York is full of trendy places like Temple Bar – recently visited by Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner in a lively «night of martinis and caviar,» as reported by Page Six, Bemelmans Bar, next to the Carlyle Hotel, frequented by Mariah Carey, Bono, and Billy Joel, or Via Carota, another favorite of Swift, among many others.

London – Nobu

The Nobu in Mayfair, London, is one of the most popular restaurants among celebrities passing through the English capital. Co-founded by none other than Robert De Niro, the establishment belongs to an international fleet with locations in different parts of the globe, including the United States, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Popular for its innovative cocktails and fusion Japanese cuisine, this place has been frequented by Kate Moss, Tom Cruise, Naomi Campbell, Brad Pitt, and Elton John, among others.

Other places we can highlight in the city regularly crowded by famous people are Automat, an American-style brasserie frequented by Lily Allen and Mick Jagger, Cecconi’s, Venetian style, also in Mayfair (a favorite of Madonna), or L’Atelier, by the chef with the most Michelin stars, Joel Robuchon, which has been visited by Elle McPherson or Helena Bonham Carter.

Paris – L’Avenue

The city of love is also a city of good eating when you know where. And Beyoncé, of course, knows it: L’Avenue, a traditional French cuisine restaurant, where you can find everything from foie gras to lentil soup, has won the hearts of many of our artists.

The restaurant is very exclusive, as you can hardly know details about it if you haven’t been there (in fact, the only information on its website is the contact address). If one thing is clear, it’s that the price is equally exclusive. Just to let you know, a serving of bread with butter is served for eight euros, and that says it all. The place is also a favorite of Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Lana Del Rey, among other superstars. Something striking is that many of these popular places are linked to some controversy; in the case of L’Avenue, BuzzFeed has reported complaints of discriminatory behavior by its management.

Other popular restaurants in the City of Lights are L’Hôtel de L’Abbaye, next to the Luxembourg Gardens, Le Café Charlot in Le Marais, or the exclusive La Casa Bini.

Madrid – Casa Macareno

Of course, in Spain, you can also find options to surround yourself with popular people, although seeing Hollywood stars every day may not be the most common. In Madrid, traditional and iconic places dominate, and you can find international personalities at places like Rosalía.

The Catalan singer visited Casa Macareno in Malasaña when she came to perform at Primavera Sound 2023. In this iconic establishment, you can find all kinds of classics at a reasonable price: from truffle croquettes to «macareno» spicy potatoes, and don’t forget the gildas, anchovies, and cheese and charcuterie boards!

Another popular choice among celebrities is the also renowned Casa Lucio, famous for its fried eggs with potatoes that have captivated celebrities like Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Pierce Brosnan, Andie MacDowell, and many more. You can also find highly exclusive places like Tora, the tavern owned by soccer player and entrepreneur Mario Hermoso, or Tatel, the establishment inaugurated by Rafa Nadal, Enrique Iglesias, and Pau Gasol in 2015, later joined by Cristiano Ronaldo two years later.

And you, would you visit any of these restaurants?
