What Happened to Jin Denim? The South Korean Singer Dies at 29

It was his sister who shared the tragic news, leaving everyone wondering about the causes

South Korean artist Jin Denim passed away at the age of 29. The events occurred on December 17, but his family announced the news on January 5, coinciding with what would have been his 30th birthday and allowing time to process the news privately.

The family has emphasized that it was an accident and not a suicide, as some had speculated after noticing his absence. The farewell took place in strict privacy, attended only by close family members. He now rests in peace at Evergreen Memorial Park in Anseong, Gyeonggi-do, alongside his father.

“We felt it was right to share accurate information with those who loved him and appreciated his music,” expressed his younger sister Danbee in an Instagram post. She was the one who spoke openly about the mental health struggles her brother faced. “We want to make it clear that the cause of his death was not suicide, but a fatal fall resulting from his medical condition,” she clarified.

Jin Denim: Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis

In 2015, he was diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder and exhibited psychotic symptoms. “He was fully aware of his condition and made ongoing efforts to manage it through medical treatment and prescribed medication,” Danbee explained. However, she also acknowledged in the same message that his symptoms had worsened sharply recently, becoming difficult to control. “Because of this, my family and I have been suffering for a long time,” she said.

She quoted her brother’s words to share the idea that Jin has now found peace: “The day I go will be a happy day because I’ll be going to heaven, so please don’t be sad,” she shared to honor his wishes for fans and friends.

While Jin Denim’s success didn’t reach the heights of other K-pop stars who have conquered the world, he did have a devoted fanbase and participated in international festivals such as the New Talents Project Festival 2025 in Barcelona.

Now, all his fans can visit his grave. His sister has shared the location and guidelines: “Please note that food offerings are not allowed at the memorial site for hygiene and maintenance reasons. However, there is a designated area nearby where you can eat if you wish. Flowers and small objects are accepted as long as they don’t interfere with other memorial spaces. Thank you for your understanding,” she informed.
