Rosalía faced a challenging moment during her LUX Tour on March 25 in Milan when she had to cancel her concert just minutes after taking the stage. Performing for more than 15,000 fans, the 'Berghain' singer revealed she was battling severe food poisoning — an illness caused by eating contaminated food — which made it impossible to continue despite her determination to push through.

Visibly weak and dehydrated, she apologized to the audience: “I’m sorry… I’ll be back when I’m in better condition.” Fans captured the moment on video, which quickly went viral, sparking an outpouring of support and concern across social media.

The LUX Tour, which launched in Lyon on March 16 and has already stopped in Paris and Zurich, now heads to Madrid on March 30. Fans and social media are raising questions about how her recovery might affect the rest of the tour schedule.

Understanding Food Poisoning

According to the NHS, food poisoning is usually not serious, and most people recover within a few days without treatment. Contamination is often caused by bacteria or viruses such as campylobacter, salmonella, E. coli, norovirus, and listeria.

Symptoms can appear within hours or up to a few days after consuming contaminated food and typically include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes with blood or mucus), stomach cramps, lack of energy, fever, chills, and muscle aches.

For performers like Rosalía, even a “common” case can be especially challenging. Beyond the basic symptoms, dehydration, weakness, and fatigue make it nearly impossible to maintain the stamina required for a high-energy show that involves singing and dancing.

Recovery Timeline for Touring Artists

While mild cases of food poisoning may resolve within 12–48 hours, more severe cases can last 5–7 days.

On tour, “feeling better” doesn’t necessarily mean being ready for the stage. Full recovery involves restoring energy, hydration, and strength — all essential for a physically demanding performance.

Experts suggest that a severe bout could require:

  • At least 2–3 days of rest before attempting to perform
  • 3–5 days to regain normal energy levels
  • Up to a week to be fully ready for a demanding concert

Health Challenges on Tour

Touring amplifies the effects of illnesses like food poisoning. Constant travel, changing time zones, irregular meals, and lack of sleep weaken the immune system. Vocal strain, physical exertion, and the pressure to maintain high-energy performances make swift recovery even more difficult.

The mental and emotional demands of touring — from performance anxiety to social media scrutiny — can also slow recovery, meaning even short-term illnesses may have ripple effects across the tour schedule.

What Fans Can Expect

Rosalía’s team has not yet announced any changes to the tour, and fans have flooded social media with messages of support.

Following NHS guidance, recovery should focus on rest, hydration, and gentle nutrition: sipping water or oral rehydration solutions, eating bland foods like toast, bananas, rice, or crackers, and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, or spicy and fatty foods until fully recovered.

One thing is clear: while the LUX Tour remains one of the most anticipated concert events of the year, Rosalía’s health comes first. She made that abundantly clear in Milan, showing fans that prioritizing well-being is essential to delivering the high-energy performances that define her career.
