Since its debut, Shrek has been a global favorite, winning over audiences everywhere. The franchise became one of the most successful animated series, wrapping up with Shrek Forever After (Shrek 4) in 2010. For years, it seemed like that was the final chapter, and after nearly 15 years, most people assumed the story had come to an end.

However, after much speculation, it’s now official: Shrek 5 is happening and already in production! What caught everyone by surprise was the addition of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars to the original cast. Zendaya has officially joined the film as the voice of Shrek and Fiona’s teenage daughter.

DreamWorks recently released the first teaser, introducing a red-haired, nose-ring-wearing ogre who looks every bit like a modern teenager. While we don’t know much about her role yet, it’s clear she’ll be a big part of this next chapter.

Fans will remember that Shrek and Fiona didn’t just have one child—they had three: two boys and a girl. Now, in Shrek 5, they’ll be navigating the wild world of raising teenagers, which is sure to bring plenty of humor and chaos.

With the original cast returning, exciting new characters, and DreamWorks breathing new life into the franchise, Shrek 5 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated animated films in years.

A New Look for Shrek and the Gang

One of the biggest surprises for Shrek fans has been the major animation change. The characters—including Donkey—have gotten a noticeable refresh, showing just how much animation has evolved in the past fifteen years. The visuals are now more detailed and expressive, with subtle lines around Shrek’s eyes and fine details like individual eyebrow hairs, making the characters look sharper and more lifelike than ever.

As heard in the trailer, the original voice cast is back, with Eddie Murphy returning as Donkey, Cameron Diaz reprising her role as Princess Fiona, and Mike Myers once again voicing Shrek.

The official plot of Shrek 5 is still a mystery, but all signs point to it being one of the most talked-about animated movies of the year. Fans will have to wait a bit longer for more details, but the excitement is already building for this long-awaited return.
