Yami Safdie has spent the past few years making her mark in music — touching listeners with her heartfelt lyrics and teaming up with big names like Álvaro de Luna, Omar Montes, Milo J, Camilo, and Vanesa Martín.
But nothing could’ve prepared the Argentine singer-songwriter for how ‘En Otra Vida,’ her 2024 collab with Lasso, would change everything. The song blew up on TikTok, going viral and taking her to a whole new level of fame.
Now in 2025, Yami’s once again connecting deeply with her audience — this time with ‘Querida Yo,’ a love letter she wrote to herself. Released in January as a collaboration with Camilo, the emotional track has already been used in more than 100,000 TikTok videos. LOS40 Spain sat down with Yami for their 40 Things segment — the perfect way to get to know the rising star a little better.

1. Full name: Yamila Safdie
2. Year and city of birth: Morón, Buenos Aires, 1997
3. Favorite music genre: Pop
4. When did you know you wanted to pursue music? I was born knowing it. I’ve loved singing since I was little, and I don’t really remember the exact moment I decided to do it professionally. But I do remember the moment I decided to go all in — when I was 19. Deep down, though, I always knew.
5. What was your first time in a recording studio like? It was in a tiny studio — a home studio — with the person who’s now my music director and performs with me.
6. A music genre you’d never do: Heavy metal, trap, rap…
You do pop, but sometimes people label you as urban. Why do you think that is?
It’s true I did a couple of reggaeton songs at the beginning, but they were still pop-reggaeton. Maybe it’s because of the people I collaborate with, like Milo J, or the circles I move in… I’m versatile and like to play around with different rhythms. But honestly, I’m not sure why.
7. Favorite male and female artist: That’s tough… Taylor Swift and C. Tangana.
8. If you had to choose between El Bolero, En Otra Vida, or Querida Yo: I hate you! (laughs) That’s a hard one. I’ll go with En Otra Vida.
9. A song you’re obsessed with right now: I’m obsessed with Bad Bunny’s latest album — especially Turista.
I don’t hate it, but with all the love in the world: La Morocha. I love Luck Ra, he’s a friend, but in Argentina, you lift the toilet lid and La Morocha starts playing.
11. A song by another artist you wish you had written:
There are many, but the first one that comes to mind is Limón y Sal by Julieta Venegas.
12. An artist you’d love to collaborate with:
There are several, but I’d say Aitana to start.
13. An artist in your contacts:
I’d say Bizarrap.
14. One of your songs you’re proud of:
‘En Otra Vida.’
15. If you weren’t a singer, you’d be…
A teacher, I think. I worked for many years at kids’ parties — I used to dress up as a princess. I’d probably be a teacher.
16. A series that got you hooked enough to binge five episodes in a row:
Wandavision.
17. A favorite hobby or sport:
Definitely not sports — but as for hobbies, I love coloring.
18. What you love most about music:
Performing live and connecting with people in the moment.
19. What you like least:
Being away from home for long stretches.
Camilo. He’s always been an idol of mine, and it’s still hard to believe I have a song with him.
21. One word that defines your relationship with music:
Love — I know it sounds kind of cliché, but that’s how it is.
22. The social media platform you’re most hooked on:
TikTok. By far. It gave me the chance to make a living doing what I love.
23. The social media platform that tires you the most:
I have a love-hate relationship with Twitter. The vibes there can be really negative.
24. Something that makes you lazy:
Getting up early to work out.
«En esta no se pudo» (“This one didn’t work out”). I say it a lot — with my manager and my team. It’s kind of a running joke now because it’s how En Otra Vida starts.
26. Something most people don’t know about you:
I’m left-handed and play the guitar upside down. Most people don’t notice until they see it live. Also, I studied musical theater and once worked on a Disney series.
27. Your favorite cartoon or TV character:
Ariel, The Little Mermaid.
28. A movie (or movies) that describe you:
The Before Sunrise trilogy. I love them. I only discovered them recently but they really hit me — in a good way.
29. Something you’re terrible at:
Anything involving sports or balls — I’m really bad at it.
Right now? A few things… but Duki, honestly. I’m a huge fan.
31. Your personality (calm, hyper…?):
I’m chill, but also super intense when it comes to what I want — especially when I’m in love.
32. A childhood toy or game you remember:
My Barbies — I loved them.
33. What do you miss right now?
My boyfriend and my cats.
34. Something you regret:
That’s a tough one… maybe not getting into music earlier.
35. Your favorite word:
Music.
36. A habit or quirk:
I used to bite my nails — but I’ve finally stopped!
37. The craziest place you’ve ever performed:
On a train! I sang there not long ago. People started recognizing me, I had my guitar with me, and I just started singing.
38. If you had to name your next album or song, what would it be?
It already has a name… but I can’t tell you yet!
39. Initials of the title?
B E H R.
40. If you could talk to your younger self, what would you say?
Honestly, I’d tell her everything I say in the song ‘Querida Yo’ — to keep going, enjoy the journey, and never stop moving forward.
