For Shakira, music isn’t the only priority—ethics, solidarity, and humanity come first. Given the current situation in Los Angeles and ICE’s mass detentions, the city didn’t seem like the right place to perform with her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour as if nothing was happening.
The Barranquilla-born artist has been outspoken about the harsh realities faced by immigrants in the U.S., especially under the policies shaped during Donald Trump’s administration.
The artist shared her personal experience in an recent interview with the BBC: “I was only 19 years old when I moved to the United States, like many other Colombian immigrants who come to this country looking for a better future,” she said. She went on to describe the migrant experience in the U.S. as “living in constant terror.” “It’s painful to see,” she lamented.

Though Shakira did not issue an official press release with the cancellation, her position is clear: she refuses to stay silent in the face of such a critical and painful issue.
In the aforementioned interview, the artist called for unity and compassion: “Now more than ever, we have to stay united. Now more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane,” she emphasized.
This isn’t the first time Shakira has spoken out in support of immigrants. At the recent Grammy Awards, where she won Best Latin Pop Album, she dedicated her award “to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country,” pledging that she would “always” fight for their rights.
Originally scheduled for June 20 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Shakira’s concert has been postponed to August 4 due to growing social unrest sparked by mass immigration raids in the city. Organizers and Ticketmaster confirmed the new date.
Her decision comes amid widespread protests and tension in several US cities, especially Los Angeles, where hundreds of immigrants have been detained in recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.
The raids have triggered demonstrations, highway blockades, and clashes with authorities, prompting curfews in neighborhoods such as Compton and the Fashion District.
Fans who purchased tickets for the original date can use them for the rescheduled concert. “Your tickets are still valid for the new date,” Ticketmaster assured attendees via email.
