Why Jeff Bezos Doesn’t Want Any Wedding Gifts (But Something Else Instead)

The couple is about to tie the knot in what many are calling the most expensive wedding of the century

Alberto Palao—The big day is almost here—what many are calling the wedding of the century, or at least the priciest one. This summer, Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder and current richest man in the world, will marry his longtime fiancée, Lauren Sánchez. The event is expected to cost around $30 million, with a guest list packed full of celebrities.

And while guests might be wondering what kind of gift to bring to someone who has everything, they don’t need to bring anything at all. In fact, Bezos and Sánchez have made a special request in their wedding invitations, which were shared by U.S. media: no gifts, please.

The idea makes sense—they want their guests to simply enjoy the celebration, without the pressure of finding the perfect present. But there’s one small exception…

They’re Accepting Donations—But Not for Themselves

While they’re not asking for gifts, the couple is encouraging guests to make a donation instead—not to them, but to a cause that matters to them: the city of Venice, where the wedding will take place.

As the invitation reads, they are making contributions in their guests’ honor as a thank-you for making the trip to join them in celebrating.

“Donations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard this city’s irreplaceable cultural heritage, to GORILA to restore the vital lagoon habitats that protect Venice’s future, and to Venice International University to support research and education for sustainable solutions,” the couple wrote.

“This magical place has gifted us unforgettable memories. Our hope is that through these efforts and by you joining us, Venice will continue to inspire wonder for generations to come,” they concluded.

And there’s no doubt Venice is in for some generous contributions from this wedding—after all, some of the wealthiest people in the world will be there.
