After nearly three decades at the helm of Versace, Donatella Versace is stepping down as the brand’s Chief Creative Officer, effective April 1, 2025. She will transition to the role of Chief Brand Ambassador, focusing on philanthropic initiatives and global brand advocacy.

Dario Vitale, formerly the Design and Image Director at Miu Miu, will succeed Donatella as Chief Creative Officer. Vitale brings over 15 years of experience, having also worked with Dsquared2 and Bottega Veneta. He expressed honor in joining Versace and contributing to its future growth.

This leadership change coincides with reports that Versace’s parent company, Capri Holdings, is exploring the sale of the brand, with Prada Group identified as a potential buyer. Such a transition would mark a significant shift in the fashion industry, given Versace‘s iconic status.

Donatella’s tenure at Versace began after the tragic death of her brother, Gianni Versace, in 1997. She was instrumental in maintaining and evolving the brand’s bold and glamorous identity, producing memorable moments like Jennifer Lopez’s iconic green silk chiffon gown at the 2000 Grammys.

As Donatella transitions to her new role, the fashion world watches closely, anticipating how Vitale’s vision will influence Versace‘s future and how these corporate changes will reshape the luxury fashion landscape.
