Music is a universal language, and major sporting events like the Olympics, the Super Bowl, and the UEFA Champions League Final always include musical performances during their opening, closing, or halftime ceremonies. Until now, the FIFA World Cup Final has only featured a pre-match show before the champion is crowned—but that’s about to change in 2026.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared on social media, following a meeting with the organizers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, that the tournament—set to take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico—will include a major and firts half-time show performance. And the band chosen for this historic moment? Coldplay.
“I can confirm the first ever half-time show at a Fifa World Cup final in New York New Jersey, in association with Global Citizen. This will be a historic moment for the Fifa World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world,” Infantino said.

The musical performances featuring Coldplay, along with other artists, won’t be limited to match day. Instead, they will take place in key locations across the host cities.
“We also spoke about how FIFA will takeover Times Square for the final weekend of the FIFA World Cup in 2026. During both the bronze final match and final,” Infantino said.“These will be two incredible matches, featuring some of the best players in the world. And what better way to celebrate them than in the historic Times Square in New York City.”

The full lineup of performers hasn’t been announced yet, but since this is a global event, it’s likely that artists from many of the 48 countries competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be part of the show.
It’s also worth remembering that Coldplay previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, where they shared the stage with Beyoncé, Mark Ronson, and Bruno Mars, creating a truly memorable performance.
