On May 13, 2025, Mexican TikTok influencer Valeria Marquez, 23, was shot and killed during a livestream from her beauty salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge, located in Zapopan, Jalisco. Known for her beauty and lifestyle content, Marquez had built a following of nearly 200,000 fans across TikTok and Instagram.

The attack occurred around 6:30 p.m., when a man posing as a delivery person entered her salon under the pretext of delivering a gift. Moments later, he pulled out a firearm and shot her in the head and chest, fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. The horrific moment was captured live on TikTok, shocking viewers and sparking nationwide outrage.

Marquez Warned About Violence from Her Ex-partner

In the wake of her death, old Instagram posts and screenshots of private messages allegedly shared by Marquez have resurfaced. In them, the influencer explicitly named her ex-partner as someone she feared. In one post, showing what appeared to be bruises on her legs, she wrote: “He was my current partner, the one I was living with — that’s why I call him my ‘EX’. And I hold him responsible for anything that might happen to me or my family (even if I have to leave the city),” Univisión reports. These posts are now being widely shared by fans and followers, many of whom believe that Marquez had been warning the public about the danger she was in.

In another leaked message, Marquez described a situation in which her ex allegedly had her removed from a nightclub in Zapopan:

“Because the guy didn’t like that I went out to have fun, and they told me: ‘Please leave, because you don’t know how he gets — I don’t want to get into trouble with him.’”
Some of these exchanges appear to show threatening language from the ex-partner, which has led the public to call on authorities to investigate him as a potential suspect.

Was It a Hired Killing?

Prosecutors are treating the murder as a targeted assassination, possibly involving a hired hitman. While some theories link the method of the attack—motorcycle getaway and delivery ruse—to tactics used by organized crime groups, the possibility of domestic violence and intimate partner revenge is now under serious scrutiny.

Marquez herself hinted during her final livestream that she felt uneasy about receiving certain gifts, suspecting they might have come from one of her ex-boyfriends.

A Nation Demands Justice

Her death has reignited debates in Mexico around gender-based violence and femicide, especially when it comes to influencers and public figures. Feminist groups, fans, and even fellow content creators are now demanding justice and calling for greater protection for women in Mexico.

As of now, no suspects have been arrested, and authorities are continuing their investigation. Meanwhile, public pressure mounts for answers, particularly regarding the potential role of Marquez’s former partner—someone she herself seemed to fear.
