Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson in Brampton, Ontario, is a Canadian rapper, singer, and producer known for his versatility, catchy melodies, and confident lyrics. Mixing hip-hop, R&B, and dancehall influences, he rose to fame in the 2010s as a standout in modern urban music—just as skilled at delivering hard-hitting bars as he is at smooth, emotional hooks.
Lanez began releasing mixtapes in the early 2010s, gradually building buzz with his vocal range and lyrical style. His big break came in 2015 with the release of ‘Say It,’ which sampled Brownstone’s ’90s R&B hit ‘If You Love Me.’ The track became a sleeper hit and helped position him as both a nostalgic and fresh voice in the scene.
Since then, Tory Lanez has built a strong catalog of charting singles, collabs, and viral tracks. Some of his best-known songs include ‘Luv,’ ‘The Take’ (featuring Chris Brown), ‘Freaky,’ ‘Broke in a Minute,’ and ‘Jerry Sprunger.’
However, Lanez’s life took a dramatic turn at the end of 2023, when he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion at a party in 2020. Though she only suffered injuries to her feet, the incident required surgery and became a major legal and cultural moment.
Now, Lanez is once again in the news—this time for being rushed to the hospital after a violent incident behind bars. On Monday, May 12, he was reportedly stabbed 14 times at a California prison—seven times in the back, twice in the neck, and once in the face.
According to EFE, Lanez is in stable condition following the attack, which involved a homemade weapon used by another inmate during an incident in the prison yard. The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear.
According to a statement shared on the artist’s official account, Tory Lanez suffered a collapsed lung and was placed on a ventilator. The update adds:
“He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

As mentioned earlier, in December 2023, after a two-week trial, a jury found Tory Lanez guilty of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in his vehicle. He was also convicted of assault with a semiautomatic handgun and negligently discharging a firearm.
