The devastating wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area have significantly impacted the film industry, causing delays and cancellations of key events. The Hollywood Academy has announced that the 2025 Oscar nominations, originally scheduled for January 17, will be delayed until January 19 due to dangerous conditions and the need to ensure everyone’s safety.
The fires have forced the Academy to postpone the announcement of the Oscar nominations, one of the most anticipated events of the year in the film industry. The decision was made after considering the safety of Academy members and the media covering the event. «Many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of them,» said an Academy spokesperson.
We will have to wait to see if the two-day delay is sufficient or if the grand celebration of the film industry will need to find new dates due to the constant activation of new hotspots caused by weather conditions.

But the Oscars are not the only event affected. Several film premieres and releases have been canceled or rescheduled. Among the affected events is the premiere of The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson, which was canceled due to the city’s conditions.
Paramount also canceled a red carpet event for Robbie Williams’ musical Better Man, and Netflix suspended a press conference for its film Emilia Pérez, which recently won several awards at the Golden Globes.
The productions of several TV series and programs have also been interrupted. Filming for Grey’s Anatomy and Hacks has been paused, as well as the late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live. Universal Studios theme park closed its doors due to the advancing fires and adverse weather conditions.
The Palisades fire, in particular, has destroyed at least 1,000 structures, making it the most destructive in the county’s history. The most affected areas include Malibu, Santa Monica, and the Hollywood Hills, where flames have ravaged homes and businesses.
Among them are many celebrities who are experiencing the fire’s advance firsthand. Adam Brody and his wife, actress Leighton Meester, Kate Beckinsale, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, and Mark Hamill are just some of the stars affected.
