The internet and social media continue to amaze—and sometimes shock—us. The speed at which news spreads means we can find out what’s happening around the world in an instant. Unfortunately, that includes tragic news. In recent weeks, the deaths of several influencers—like Brazilian content creator Amanda Borges—have deeply impacted their followers and communities. Now, we’ve learned of another heartbreaking loss: Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old TikToker, has died.
What seemed like an ordinary workday quickly turned into a nightmare. Valeria was shot and killed inside her own beauty salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge, while she was livestreaming on social media. She had more than 100,000 followers on TikTok, where she regularly posted beauty tips, content from her salon, and glimpses into her personal life.
During the live session, she was answering questions from followers when she suddenly looked toward the entrance. A man, pretending to be a delivery driver, walked in and opened fire, killing her on camera. He then fled the scene on a motorcycle.

What makes this tragedy even more unsettling is that it was all captured live. Valeria was chatting with her followers when a woman’s voice is heard telling her someone had come to see her. In the video, Valeria appears confused, slightly uneasy—and just moments later, she collapses in her chair, having been fatally shot.
According to initial reports, it was her friend Vivian who ended the livestream. A clip of the video quickly spread across social media, sparking thousands of reactions and a flood of speculation about who might have wanted to harm her. The sadness and outrage in the comments were immediate and widespread.
