BST Hyde Park: Adele Women Music Million

The Only 4 Women in Music History to Sell Over One Million in a Week

These artists are proving they’ve got the power to reshape the industry

Archivado en: Adele  •   K-Pop  •   Taylor Swift  •

In the music industry, breaking sales records is never easy—and it can be even harder for women. But four powerhouse artists have done just that, sharing a historic milestone: Taylor Swift, Adele, Jennie, and Jisoo of BLACKPINK are the only female artists to sell more than one million copies in a single week.

They may come from very different worlds—Adele with her powerhouse ballads, Taylor dominating the pop industry, and the BLACKPINK stars representing K-pop—but they all share one achievement: pushing women’s music to the very top of the charts.

So let’s take a look at their milestones, because it’s time to recognize the powerful women shaping the industry. If you didn’t know the numbers, here are the record-breaking moments that made history.

Adele

We’ll start with Adele, because what she pulled off was nothing short of historic. In 2015, her album 25 sold an astonishing 3.38 million copies in the U.S. during its first week. To this day, no one has managed to beat that number. It was a global phenomenon that proved fans were more than ready to hear her again after four years away.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has become the artist who’s hit the million mark more times, and in such a short span, than anyone else. Midnights (2022) debuted with 1.5 million units sold in its first week in the U.S., and her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department (2024), went even higher with 2.61 million. Practically every era of Taylor breaks records, cementing her as the biggest artist in the industry today.

Jisoo

K-pop also has its place in this exclusive club, thanks to Jisoo of BLACKPINK. In March 2023, she dropped her first solo album, Me, which sold 1.17 million copies in its first week. That achievement made her the first female K-pop soloist to ever reach the milestone.

Jennie

Another BLACKPINK member who joined this record-breaking list is Jennie. Her debut solo album, Ruby (2025), sold over one million copies in just seven days, with more than 660,000 of those sales coming from South Korea alone. The global impact of her release proves that Jennie doesn’t just shine within the group—she’s a powerhouse on her own.
