Rosalía’s fans had been begging for it: the music video for La Perla, the most popular song from LUX, finally has a video.
One month after releasing her fourth studio album, the Catalan star and Yahritza y su Esencia released the video for La Perla. However, Yahritza y su Esencia are absent from the video. The trio of siblings does not appear.
For the occasion, Rosalía teamed up once again with one of her favorite directors: none other than Stillz. The Spanish artist and the filmmaker have collaborated several times. They filmed La Noche de Anoche with Bad Bunny in 2020; Vampiros with Rauw Alejandro in 2023; and Tuya. Stillz was also behind Despechá and Candy.
For La Perla, Rosalía embodies several sports to dedicate the song to all those who talk about promises that were never kept: “A mirage, Olympic gold medal to the biggest jerk. You’ve got the podium of great disappointment.”
The dogs represent untamable men that Rosalía has to control. They are animals that the singer must keep on a short leash—a metaphor for what the artist feels in a relationship.
Additionally, we see the singer engaged in various sports: car racing, fencing, and hockey. Three different sports that, in one way or another, are distinct—like the different experiences that inspired Rosalía for this song. She mentioned in the Spanish TV show La Revuelta that this song is not inspired by just one person.
Also noteworthy is the moment referencing the “Olympic gold medal to the biggest jerk.”
The artist also strolls through the streets of Los Angeles wearing low-rise pants, revealing her underwear. This outfit might remind us of a medieval chastity belt—a metaphor for those statements she made about being in a “volcel” phase, a voluntary celibacy?
La Perla is the second music video from the LUX album. The Spanish artist surprised the world with Berghain. At that time, the singer worked with Canada, one of her main production teams, to present the universe of this project.
